I have a new foster girl - a lovely pit bull that is just wonderful! She's still very scared, and hasn't really taken an interest in any food items (and I have tried everything) - except Matt's Cheerios.

Now, obviously, I am not going to feed her Cheerios in place of her food. :lol-sign: However, this led me to wonder: are Cheerios ok for dogs to have? I thought I would mix them in with her dog food to entice her to eat...

Thanks!

I know people who use Cheerios as training treats. If it makes her eat I'd definitally try it.

I use Cheerios sometimes, as once in a while treats though, since I rarely eat Cheerios.

Anyways, lol, if she's on/going to be on a good food, I don't see any problems as long as it's in moderation. :)

Thanks everyone!

Right now she is eating...

2/3 cup Cheerios
2/3 cup dry Canidae
2/3 cup wet Canidae

It was the only mixture that I could get her to eat...over time I'll wean her off the Cheerios and gradually switch her to 1/2 cup wet and 1 1/2 cups dry per day...

Hey Rosefern,
I have a Min Pin who is the pickiest eater of all, and it turns out the way to get him to eat his dry food was to put it in the blender with water and then put the paste in the fridge to cool it off. I'm imagining he thinks of it as a "treat" rather than food. We originally fed him Canidae, he'd eat enough to survive, then we switched to EVO, and he'd eat enough to survive, then we switched him to Instinct, and he'd eat enough to survive. Since we've tried blending it up, he doesn't seem to care if it's the EVO, Canidae, or Instinct, he eats it all up like he's never eaten before. I don't know if it's because it's chilled, since I've talked to other people in the past few weeks who do the same thing, but they microwave the food to get it warm to the touch, and it has the same effect.

An interesting note, he won't eat canned food, whether it's warmed or chilled, but it doesn't matter what brand of dry food we grind up, he loves it. My wife keeps joking that maybe he sees us putting some effort into feeding him, and that's why he eats it, I personally don't care, he's looking good finally, and if we have to puree his food to get him to eat it, then so be it.

Someone else here mentioned that a problem with feeding the blended food could be tooth decay, but we make sure after he cleans his bowl out, he gets a biscuit, and I'm hoping that biscuit helps to clean the teeth, but we still brush occasionally just to be safe.
