I've decided that my baby fever might well be biologically triggered. Seems that all of a sudden my fb friends list is experiencing a baby boom AGAIN! Something like 6 pregnancies being announced in the last month or so! o_O Something is in the air!

Clive (usually) falls asleep on long trips. But aside from that, I'd go with the suggestion of some new toys to break out in fussy periods. We also keep a few kid's movies on the tablet :)

The trips to the children's hospital for Nico's appointments are usually around 3 1/2 hours one way. So we have become experts at planning during nap times. Is there a way you can break it up. So half the trip during the morning nap period and half during the afternoon with a meal and some fun outside of the car stuff to do in between. The one time we had to drive in and drive back in the same day this is how we did it. No fussing and no crankiness.

Well, baby fever IS contagious. And when it hit me, I was like a wild animal. MUST HAVE ALL THE BABIES!
^You had baby rabies, obviously. I'm so far being successful at treating the fever with ALL TEH RESEARCH!

I went ahead and told DH about the baby fever and he didn't look horrified, which mildly surprised me. Instead he told me to start getting ideas of costs for various things and think about how I want to handle working after munchkin in more detail (we've already discussed the basics) so we can sit down in a few weeks and come up with a plan. <3

(and no, the plan doesn't include moving the schedule up a year, lest anyone get any ideas)

Haha men are all about the planning and budgeting.

Once I decided it was time, I couldn't hear any logic about timing or money or planning. I dove in with both ovaries and didn't look back. The rest figures itself out.

Secretly I kind of hope none of our subsequent children are planned, either. Although there's a decent chance the rest will be adopted or foster children, so maybe not.

You guys are crazy. Zach and I both have a half dozen spreadsheets calculating investments and college savings for munchkin. There's no way I would feel secure about this at all without proving to myself I can afford this long term.

Oh my word? Really? It is no where near that complicated.

Hannah has a good college fund going and we are a
Mostly single income family. Kids don't HAVE to cost a fortune to give them what they need and more. It is so over complicated by today's society.

When you over think it, kids are a terribly expensive idea and we would have never had Hannah. God decided for us thankfully and it has been so much easier than we anticipated financially and more. Even with homeschooling

Respectfully disagree. I don't think you can over plan for education savings. We've been working with a financial adviser for years to plan our retirement, and it's only logical that the cost of a kid comes into play there. I am confident that we will be able to fully fund 4 years of school at the university of kiddo's choice. I would not feel right bringing a child into this world if I couldn't assure that.

I think if planning is one's thing, and makes them feel secure and happy, go for it

I do however think one can over think having a baby. Life tends to throw curve ball after curve ball, and with children, mostly its just a ride you try to guide lol. (not that its wrong to plan, but just that it doesnt mean as much to some as others...I probably wouldve never had children if I waited for things to look perfect on paper, but I am not a long term planner anyways)

I dont think one HAS to plan and budget to be awesome parents, to raise happy and successful children.

I think everyone is going to approach it differently, which is as it should be as we are all individuals and unique :)

And planning doesn't always mean someone wants to wait until it's "perfect", either. I hear a lot of people say this when I mention my research and planning and I am fully aware that things are never going to be "perfect", but I do like having a plan and taking some of the guess work out of it since a baby will certainly turn things upside down. ;)

Oh definitely :)

Everyone has different comfort levels for sure.

I mainly mentioned that because I had a friend who wanted to have a child for SOO long and her DH kept "planning"....and coudn't get over his fear of things not being ready. It caused them lots of problems and can be a pit fall.

But just planning in general, no, not the same:)

Technically I planned....not financially too much beyond can we afford for me to stay at home. I researched my butt off though on pregnancy, on birthing, on raising babies and all that goes along with it.

My parents planned for college and had a decent fund for me...my father took it all when he left. I worked my way into college and supported myself (with some help from mom...I wasn't 100% independent, but paid tuition, rent, etc.). I really think I appreciated my education more than many friends who had it paid for, and I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have kept a 4.0 if I hadn't worked so hard to get there in the first place.

That's not to say I don't think parents should save for or pay for their child's college. But all kinds of things can happen. We're saving what we can for college, but I'm way, way more concerned about a lot of other aspects of raising her.

I heard that so much when we were in that pre-baby holding pattern. "It'll never be the right time!" Yeah, but it could be a lot more right than it is now. Lol. We waited until my school loans were almost gone, I had the car I wanted, and Matt had a solid job. And it was definitely a good call to wait because we're paying way more for daycare than we thought we would be and not having my school loans on top of that is really helpful. Plus, the hospital and insurance jacked around and sent us Falon's hospital bill THREE months after she was born so it was like SURPRISE YOU OWE US EIGHT HUNDRED DOLLARS after I thought we were good.

On the other hand, if you feel ready now and want to change your mind about when to have a baby that's totally okay. It's YOUR decision.

On the college savings topic, we're going to set up an investment fund that everyone can contribute to (if they want). It probably won't be enough for an Ivy League school but...well that's okay. I want to help our kid(s) out with college and it would be amazing if we could pay for the whole shot but if it doesn't work out that way it's not the end of the world. Different strokes for different folks right?

This is what I meant. Planning for education is great but planning for every little detail and you can really psych yourself out and way over complicate things.

But I am not a big planner beyond the basics and Brian handles most of the money stuff because that's just his thing. Hannah is a PLANNER. Oh my word lol that girl needs to know what we are doing every second of the day for the whole week... A week in advanced lol. She's taught me a lot about planning. Planning makes her feel better about things but she can get carried away with it and start to fret about little details of things that really aren't a huge deal and I find myself talking her down when she gets wound up about something... and she's not quite 6 yet lol.

She gets that from her Grammy. They are coming up for Hannah's birthday party and I think we have had 6 conversations about the food  it's a child's birthday party lol. I've already told her I can make a huge batch of PTA casserole (pasta and hamburger, everyone likes it, easy to make, and it makes a TON of food) or we can get lunchmeat and buns, etc and everyday she comes back to me with questions about the food LOL. I actually am a little concerned about her memory though because I feel like we have the same conversation 4 times a week and she has absolutely no recollection that we've already talked about it.

Like Kiddie Kollege where I help teach the preschool class two days a week. This is my second year there and she STILL asks me what it is? it's a preschool. how big is it? it's one room in the basement of a church. is it for homeschoolers? No it's a preschool, people send their kids and we teach them for 4 hours, two days a week. I'm confused about what it is? ?????? it's a preschool, just like the one Hannah went to when she was younger. Oh, I see. She has asked me these questions more times than I can count and she just doesn't remember. I'm concerned. I told Brian he has to bring it up though since it's his mom. We have a very close relationship but I just don't feel it's my place to bring this up.

WOW... sorry, I totally went off in a random direction there. I had to get it out though, it's been weighing on me lately. I'm concerned about her.

Decided to try out some cloth diapers. I've ordered some sun baby's and some alvas. I can see this becoming addicting. This is supposed to SAVE me money!

Allison, you convinced me...I just order 12 sunbaby diapers. If I like them I'll definitely order more cloth.

I was too cheap to pay $9.00 for shipping though, so I have to wait 20-30 days for them! And I'm still waiting on the amber necklace I ordered from Latvia about a week ago!
