This is my "Kal". He was actually 16.1 (not 16.2... that was the size of my sister's horse). Here he is in his golden years (and me in the late 80's with that big hair, don't laugh). I got him as a yearling and he was born black. No gray horse is born that color. They're either black or chestnut. He would slowly lighten up during his aging process...

Thank you! He was very beautiful and was more like a pet than a show horse. Which went to my detriment at shows. He had a mind of his own, that's for sure!

Don't want to hijack Gustav's thread, but I know she'll enjoy these, too! Another angle of the beautiful Kal jumping in the show ring...

Wow EliNHunter! He's a stunner! ;) I had a full Connamara called Roo once, she was a handful and no mistake! :D Cavan is a BIG 16.1, he is broad as well so he looks bigger, but I am 5 ft 9, and that's mostly taken up with legs! So if I ride anything smaller my feet are dangling round their knees! lol! I have some pictures of Cavan and I in a working hunter competition somewhere, I will look them out!

I know what you mean about getting a yearling that grows too big though! We got Blitz when he was nearly 2, and his breeder said that she didn't think he would get much bigger than 16.2, WRONG! By the time he was 4 he was 18.2 and I think he finally stopped growing at 18.3!! He was quite alot of horse. But you wouldn't find a sweeter animal. He contracted a rare disease and had to be put to sleep. :(

And yeah there is a pic of La La she's the one sitting, and the last pic on the first page :D

Hi, Gustav! La La's the one sitting down, huh? That pic is hilarious!!! And what kind of horse was Blitz? 18.3 -- OH MY! That's HUGE! I'd LOVE to see a pic of him... got any??

(I'm at work now and those pics of Kal are not coming up any longer. And I noticed Nicco couldn't view them either  )

I have hunted high and low but I can't find any pics!! :( Since we moved I haven't been able to find anything!! lol! I always find things that are missing when I don't want/need them! Always the way hey! In a couple of months when we've all forgotten about this conversation i'll find them and post them then!

The breeder we got Blitz from said he was a Thoroughbred, and I believed her because when he was a yearling he looked all legs like Thoroughbreds do! But he obviously wasn't a full Thoroughbred! He wasn't at all chunky though, he had the build of a warmblood! God only knows what he was! He was completely Chestnut! No white at all. I miss him even now! :(

Thanks! I looove Percherons!! I have a bit of a chunky horse thing! But I have never seen a Bay one before! Normally they are Dapple Grey aren't they?! And yeah, if Blitz had just grown a few more inches he could have been a record breaker!!! I think in all honesty though that 18.3 was quite big enough!! I needed a ladder to get on as it was! I was the only person in the yard that had to stand on the mounting block just to get her foot in the stirrup to get on!! :D

They're my FAV of draft horses! And yes, you usually see them gray (born black, mind you!). But they "can" be different colors. Gray is just more common.

Question: When you rode Blitz, what would you do? Did you jump him? Was he just an undersaddle horse? Dressage? Eventing? What are you into? I'll never forget riding the biggest horse I ever have. He was a thoroughbred named "Leonard's Brother" (don't ask me why). He was 17.2 and I was only like 13 years old. His stride was sooooooooo long, that when I posted at a trot, it was like "hmm-doo-dee-da-doo-dee-day" until it came time to sit back down again!! :D

We did a bit of everything, Fox Hunting, Showjumping, dressage (which is not an easy task, trying to get a huge horse round a tiny dressage arena, especially when one canter stride takes up the whole long side and you have to try and gather him in for the short sides, and canter a 20 meter circle Ha forget it!! 50 meter circle more like! Hehehehe!) We used to jump cross country too, which was great because people on the smaller horses were really having to barrel along to get in in the time limit and I used to just glide along at normal canter speed because his strides were so long! :D He was sooooo smooth too, It was like riding an arm chair! Lol! :D

LOL! That follows the same thinking of my other post to you about Leonard's Brother!!! It's like driving a semi on a grand prix course, isn't it??!!!

Hehehehe! I love big horses! I've had a few BIG horses, I did all my growing between 10-14 so at 14 I was roughly 5 ft 9" and far too tall for ponies, although not too heavy I just looked ridiculous!! :D I think Cavan is my smallest horse for a while and certainly the laziest!!! Cavan is my confidence builder, I had a really awful accident whilst riding and I for the first time ever in my life was frightened to get on!! So Martin bought me Cavan because he said that I needed to ride again as i'm only ever happy when I'm riding! My brother likes to ride too, and he's 6ft 3" so we've always had fair sized horses for him to ride!
