Caring about animals = NOT caring for tiny humans?

Just a slight rant, I see/hear this a lot, whether on Facebook, or in person, whatever.

But example... the new Budweiser commercial with the puppy and the horse is going wild on FB. I just saw a comment from someone that said: "I am in awe of how tearful those from the USA are about animals...and yet.....and yet...... humans? kids in poverty? not so much apparently..."

I see this sentiment way more often than I should. People that think just because I'm an animal lover, or an advocate for animals, or whatever the hell you want to call it, that I'm not as caring or passionate about kids or human life? I mean, really? Just because maybe I'm MORE passionate about one over the other still doesn't make me some unkind human-hating soul.

Should add that comment above was not written to me or directed at me but it still annoys me.

I equally turn off sick kids and homeless puppy commercials that come on TV because they both make me depressed

Okay, so they've never seen one in the million different "call now and give us money" adverts for poor kids?

Or seen the news and seen horror stories of children suffering?

I care about suffering, no matter what being endures it. Okay, perhaps not bees because I am not a fan of bees, but that doesn't mean that I don't think we need them to survive.

Just an ignorant comment overall.

No, you can only care about one thing at a time. And until ALL problems are solved, you cannot enjoy ANYTHING else, EVER. Or you are worse than Hitler.

I don't get that either. Generally they are people who aren't doing much to help any cause who say that kind of thing anyways so don't pay it too much attention. The world is full of inactive preachers who know more about whatever

Basically this.

I guess the fact that my passion is for animals, automatically means that I'm okay with human and child suffering. Whatever.

That doesn't even make sense LOL. It's a BEER COMMERCIAL. It's not advocating ANYTHING except "drink more beer!!" It's got nothing to do with any kind of activism AT ALL except "DRINK MORE BEER."

Anyway I think kids in poverty are awesome. I don't understand why they keep canceling the schools because of the sub-zero windchill temps and stuff. SO WHAT if there are a bunch of kids out there who have to walk to school and can't afford winter coats. SURVIVAL OF THE FITTEST after all.

And it's all because of puppies.
And horses.
But especially puppies and horses together.

I mean it literally just makes no sense.

What joy?
No joy allowed.
Think of the children.

Sadness?
No. You do not have permission to be sad. The children in the third world nominate one sad child every year with the most under privileged life and only he has permission.

Love?
For yourself? Narcissist
Significant other? Co-dependent
Hobby? Anti social
Dog? Weird dog lady, love humans instead
Humans? Love only really certain humans
Kids? Boring mommy type

Anything we are allowed to feel anymore? lol it's a bit silly.

Don't invalidate your feelings for anyone. Talk about and love what brings you joy and makes you feel whole. the end.

That annoys me too. It also annoys me when people get offended that we have pets that we spoil while children in third world countries go hungry. People who say that obviously haven't spent any time learning about the world, because then they'd know that the poverty in other countries exists for various reasons such as political corruption, religious strife, etc. that have nothing to do with whether or not people in first world countries own pets. Pet ownership is another sign of wealth, as are expensive cars and big houses.

I know many pet owners who support both organizations that promote animal welfare and child welfare. My parents sponsor two children from Africa, and we had a neighbor that was also sponsoring a child. But apparently people can't support more than one cause at a time.

I never hit the "yes" button when credit card machines ask me to donate to help homeless pets (Petsmart) or help the children with cerebal palsy/cancer/insert other disease here (Safeway). I'm never sure how much of my money would go to help the cause anyway. So I'm sure I do something to offend everyone. :D

Thats part of the reason I'm leery of donating to anyone/anything. I would rather help my local shelter by walking dogs, then give money that might not get where it needs to go.

It's cool to hate Americans these days. It's a reputation we worked hard at and probably deserve at this point.

Doesn't matter if it's kids, puppies, environment, guns, weather or the size of jeans we wear, it's just cool to not like Americans

I believe all living creatures need help and support. And really depends on what you are "called for" in this life, There are many people who concern and help other fellows but there are many helping animals, rescuing the earth from poultion...

But in the end we all are responsible for everything that is going on here on earth so empathy is much much needed!

Yes, I see this too, and it annoys the crap out of me as well. What really gets me angry is people with that mentality ALWAYS open their mouths about it when people are reacting to a situation in the news where an animal(s) are being abused.

Of course human lives come first. But that doesn't mean the lives of other living creatures should be ignored and people should turn a blind eye when an animal is suffering. Like when the Patrick case hit the news, you got some people responding with "This is sad, but remember there are children starving all over the world". WTF does children living in poverty even have to do with a dog being starved, abused, and thrown down a garbage shoot, and how does that make what happened in anyway okay??

This to! Hating and insulting America is the "in" thing now, weather the actual issue has anything to do with the country or not.

QFT.

I know this is in horrible taste, but I'm saying it anyway. You know how some people say "Every time you buy a dog, a shelter dog dies?" I sometimes get the feeling people are trying to say, "Every time you help an animal, a child in need dies." :/

When I wanted to be a veterinarian my grandma told me to be a doctor or nurse instead, so that I would be "doing something that matters."

I saw these comments with Michael Vick a lot. Comments like "Everyone is so upset because he did this to dogs, but people wouldn't care if it were kids or something." REALLY??? If he had done to children what he did to those dogs he'd probably already had a needle in his arm, if he wasn't killed in prison first.
