There's a natural foods pet store near me that sells a lot of raw. They had beef marrow bones on sale so I decided to just grab a couple for the hell of it. Bamm ended up with diarrhea which actually doesn't surprise me since he has a sensitive stomach. I think if he gets another one he is only going to be allowed the bone for a few minutes a day or maybe he will just stick to knuckle bones since he seems to do fine on those. Cricket on the otherhand has absolutely normal stools after cleaning the marrow out of hers.

Yesterday evening after cleaning out the rest of her bone she didn't want to eat her kibble dinner. This dog lives for food. I figured she might just be full though so I took her dinner bowl up. This morning she still didn't want to eat her kibble that I gave her for breakfast. Then this evening she decided to only eat half of her dinner.

I'm wondering if the marrow bone that I gave her could have something to do with her appetite being a bit low and if thats normal with dogs that don't get marrow bones often or if I should be concerned. Like I said her stools are normal and she hasn't been acting any different.

She might just be holding out for more marrow bones. If I give Lacey something super yummy she sometimes refuses 1-3 feedings, she tries to "hold out" because she thinks she is going to get more yummy treats. Dog food is boring compared to hot dogs/marrow bones/ect lol.

If there was a lot of meat on the bone it could have something to do with it. Do you give bones a lot? She might be expecting a bone instead of her actual meal.

She used to get bones a lot and then didn't for a while because we didn't have the extra money at the tome. She has older bones lying around she can chew, but this was her first fresh raw bone in two months and there was quite a bit of meat on it. Holding out for another bone is probably the more likely situation in this case. I left her half eaten dinner in her crate overnight last night and this morning the bowl was empty. Looks like she caved lol.

There are a LOT of calories in marrow, so if she cleaned out that bone in one sitting, it's not surprising she didn't want dinner.

My dogs are generally pretty pig-ish and will eat and eat and eat, but Dance was a little bit slower yesterday to eat dinner after chewing her marrow bone for a few hours. Makes no difference to the Dobes though -- they say the more food the better!

I'd imagine some dogs could get an upset tummy.

If she acts off in any other way, though, I'd have her checked just in case it's a pyo brewing or something else unsavory.

Did you check her teeth?

I don't feed marrow bones anymore they are just too hard and have been known to break dogs teeth. I give Hannah ribs as a chew toy and while they don't last long like a marrow bone its just not worth the risk to me.

Maddie chipped two teeth on marrow bones... Nothing serious, and nothing that caused her any pain, but every time I look at her teeth I want to kick myself  lol
Because for her age they are very white, but she is missing a couple in the the front from the attack and her one eyetooth and the one behind it is chipped  oy

I haven't checked her teeth yet but I will when I get home. I came home from work today and Bamm had diarrhea all over him and his crate. Poor guy. He got a bath and I cleaned his crate and gave him some digestive enhancer and went out and bought him some canned pumpkin. He has IBS so sometimes things just irritate his tummy. No more marrow bones for him anymore.. and honestly im thinking no more for Cricket too.

Yeah i would go for some different bones and strip some of the meat of to start with.

Marrow is pretty rich stuff even for those use to raw feeding.

Stripped beef ribs are great (you can use the meat in soups and stews and give the bones to the dogs)
