Does anyone remember the short period in time when most things were built to last...there were about two decades-40's and 50's? when things were built strong and to last a life-time,from parts, tools to cars etc.. Now things are five times the price, mostly junk, and only last a couple of years at most.
It just seems to be such a waste.

A couple years? That's giving some things a little too much credit. ;) But yes, I agree, some of it does feel like a waste.

Oh, I don't know that it was only the '40s and '50s . . . I came along later and I'm still holding together pretty decently in spite of everything that's been thrown at me and yanked out from under me and everything I've been buried under and all the sh1t that's attempted to drown me . . . .

I agree to a point. But spending 100.00 in the 50's/60's is more like spending 1000.00 today (give or take) and really you get what you pay for in a lot of cases.

People normally want something and go out and buy it NOW. Do your homework, compare, use the internet as a tool instead of just entertainment. For most things you can type in searches, it will come back with reviews, complaints, praise, etc. Don't just seek the lowest prices.............You get what you pay for ;)

Oh and BTW, our 1990 ford ranger (that we passed to our oldest boy) was still going strong with NO mechanical issues until just this past Tuesday when he was in an accident. AND it held up pretty well to the impact...........GO FORDS! LOL

Oh do I know. I bought a brand new Sony laptop 5 months ago and the disk drive is already broken; it also starts up and then shuts down before finishing sometimes. I'm bringing back to be repaired.

The economy would be worse than it already is if people didn't have to go out and buy new things every couple years, IMO.

That being said...this is why we do not buy new build homes, only those built before 1980 and prefereably...50/60's

Haha.... built to last.

Well, I have a lovely gothic minster in my town, which I feel will well out last the houses built in the 40's and 50's.

Here most things in those periods where bombed to smithereens or built on the cheap following the war.

I heard some guy working in a phone store tell someone they design phones to be easily breakable or take a s**t in a year or two so you have to buy a new one..
I dont think its only phones they do this with..
