I dont know if there is such a thing..but if there is my boxer sure has them! Shes used to living with another boxer and 5 people in the house. Myself, my boyfriend, the other boxer owner and another couple. We recently moved to our own apartment (me boxer and bf) and she seems to be..sad? alot. She doesnt have the same appetite as she used to *shes only 1 and a half by the way* and maybe its the lack of a backyard to run around when she wants to. We take her out at least twice a week to my boyfriends mom to run around and she gets walked twice a day. She's very spoiled..sleeps in bed with us at night and has her own corner of the couch and to many toys to count. Is she upset that we leave her alone sometimes *I have school my bf has work* shes used to someone being there with her all the time or at least another boxer. She still gets excited when we say Kia-other boxers name. Should I get her a boxer friend or will this all go away as she grows up? She just doesnt seem like her old self and im worried. Anyone have these problems with any other dog??

How Long are you leaving her for?

Boxers hould NOT be left for more than 2-3 hours per day!

They are absolutely dependant upon the companionship of their families! This is not a dog to be left alone unattended for hours on end. It is common to find a Boxer who suffers from separation anxiety. They need to be around people and they thrive on this special companionship.

Boxers do like the compant of other boxers, but if most importantly they need Human companionship, at her age she should deffinately not be acting like this

How do oyu exercise her?

Boxers need at least 2 daily walks, and if you have no garden for her then you should really put her walks up to 3 a day

they have so much energy to burn off
Many Boxers end up in rescues or shelters because their families did little research and were not aware of the incredible amount of energy they have

I have heard when a dog is used to having another dog around and one of them is suddenly gone, they go into a depression. If you are able to get another dog for company, I think that might be a good idea, especially since no one else is around all the time.

I think Roxy must have been very well bonded with those other people and the other dog. She probably does miss them, and the fun she had with Kia. Can you take her to visit sometimes? That may help.

Oh and welcome to the site! Do you have anymore pics of Roxy? :)

Boxer Baby

Roxy has been treated like a baby her whole life she has never been left alone for more then 3 hours. I only have 2 classes in the afternoon 2 days a week and she chews everything when I leave! We dont want to result to putting her in a crate which we used to when she was bad. She knows the word cage and it usually is enough to inspire her to behave while we are gone...usually lol. She is very used to people and has special favourite people beside me and my bf and as for Kia they see each other every weekend or so but not for long. We were thinking about getting her a friend but im 7 months pregnant and we dont want to introduce Roxy to to much stress over new things at once. We got her a kitten once...well we got a kitten Roxy claimed it but she and the other boxer were a bit to rough with it and well...we decided no more kittens. She doesnt 'like' other animals beside boxers or bigger dogs so an adult cat is out of the question as well. We go for about a 20 minute walk every morning and she has a little bit of a front yard to play in. We will only be living here till next June but I dont want her getting sick over lack of exercise or lack of apetite. Of course I have lots of pictures!!! I just havent figured out how to put them on  Does anyone know a good dog food brand for boxers? Im thinking about switching her food...give her some change in flavour!

I wouldnt change her food over straight away
Boxers have sensitive stomach's so i wouldnt reccomend changing her food unless you are going to do it gradually by mixing it in with her normal food over a couple of weeks

Maybe when your baby is older and you are all settled in your new house then maybe think about getting another boxer?

I would say though if you cant manage 3 walks a day, with her not having a garden is there anyone who could walk her for you?
how many walks does she get?

Id love to get another boxer in the near future im planning on waiting at least a year though Im worried, not that Roxy will be mean to the baby..but to people who want to see the baby. She is very overprotective of my 3 year old brother and once jumped on my cousin for playing rough with him. She didnt hurt him thank god but it makes me wonder how protective she will be?? Will another dog make to much stress? Im looking into getting someone to walk her and take her to the park at least every two days but its october already and I live in Quebec and she hates the cold. By end of november it will be to cold for long walks I read somewhere boxers are very cold sensitive?

Boxers love there walks no matter what lol, but a little coat for her could be a good idea for the winter months they do chill easily, but once they are running mad they warm up quickly.

I would say, when you do have your baby, and people come to visit, could you ask them to greet Roxy aswell and just give her a bit of a fuss?
If she realises the people are not a threat then she should be ok with them meeting the new baby, also the baby is new so she wont have a strong bond with the baby so wont feel the need to protect her/him.

Hope you manage to get her cheered up, its so sad to see an unhappy boxer, oh and good luck with the baby too!! :D

thank you! Im going to take her to the park tommorow and throw a tennis ball around and see if when we get back she has some appetite if not well she has a blood test on wednesday we are putting her on heartworm pills..well prevention pills. Wow vets are expensive :S but id rather pay 30 for a check up and 15 a month then have her get worms and surgery! I think that will be the biggest problem. When friends come over now its hard to ignore a 30 pound jumping blur!!! Do they bond well with children? Any one have an issues on boxers and babies? Im going to make another post for this topic! Thank you for your insight and I will try to get her more exercise and spend more time with her we have been trying to have the same amount of 'roxy' time but its hard because I cant go running with her or on 4 wheeler (she can run 30 kilometers an hour!!! we timed her :D )

I love that there are so many Boxer lovers/owners here. I have one named Chase. He is a brown/black brindle and he also suffered from sep. anxiety the first 2-3 years of his life and finally "out grew" it. Boxers are such great companions, I can think of my life without him. He is getting older, but still has his "boxer spunk."

I do have some pictures, I will have to get them out and then actually figure out how to put them on here.
I had another boxer back in 1995 that sadly died at 1 year and 2 month old from uncurable cancer under his tongue. It spread very quickly and he was put down in my arms....a horrible time in my life. I had him cremated and he still lives on in my heart. I swore I would never get another one, but they are just so great I couldn't help myself. I just didn't want to go through the pain again. SO far, Chase has had 3 tumors removed, but they were fine. I have been very careful with his diet and now give him "Missing Link Plus" everyday, as well as fish oil and vit. c., he is also on thyroid meds, which has helped his weight. Will get some pictures up soon.
I also saw the drawing of the boxer on your Pet Portraits....very talented. It must keep you busy.

Amy, Essiac tea can be very helpful for animals (two or four legged) with tumors. My big GSD/Akita, Bear, had a very large one in the heavy muscle of his back leg. The vet took out part, but could only get about half as it was heavily entwined in the muscle. I was told the lab couldn't get a definitive read on whether or not it was malignant - I suspect it was and he didn't want to tell me. I started Bear (110 pounds) on a half cup of the decoction twice a day for two months, then backed it down to a quarter cup twice a day and the remainder of the tumor gradually shrunk itself away. He lived to be at least 14 or 15 - I can't be sure which, as I adopted him from the pound as an adult.
