Biting

It seems like Im always posting becuase my dog has problems. Now my puppy wont stop play biting. The biting hurts. Whenever we play she attacks. I have tried telling her no but she still has to learn the meaning of that. I have also tried to close her jaw and tell her no bite whenever she starts biting. But that doesn't work. What should I do.

Becky, Go through the threads on this training forum and those of the puppy forum. There have been a lot of people in your shoes and so there are quite a few similar threads. See if there's anything there that might help you. If not, come back to this. I bet you'll find some answers.

Oh that wild puppy play! As Doberluv suggested there is alot of info that should help. I remember when my Addie was a puppy, I would substitute 'toy', which was a rope doggie toy, for my hand saying 'no bite'. Suddenly, if I said 'no bite' she would look everywhere for 'toy'........she still does. Seems to take such patience, but I know you will find so much useful information when you do a search.

My 3 month old GSD does that too. She has drawn blood. (not much) Not b/c she's vicious(sp?) but b/c her teeth are still growing VERY sharply. When she bites you, say 'ouch' really loud or give out a yelp then stop all play and ignore her for a minute or two. Then let her come to you to play again.

Hi Becky, In regards to your biting dog get yourself a small spray bottle and everytime your dog bites just give your dog a little spray of water and say "no biting" that might just work.

I would follow sky's advice You don't want the dog to associate playing with you with unpleasant things like jets of water in the face.

hello im a newbie im only young and just learning to be a dog trainier. have you tried when your dog bites you in a realy realy high pitched voice yell "OOOOCH" THIS WILL STARTLE THE DOG and he should soon stop bitting it will take a little while but you can give it ago and could you please let me know how you get on please thank you and good luck.

Hi Becky, the behavior of your puppy is quit normal. But to teach him not to bite there is a quit easy way to do that. I believe you pup have a colour. When he start biting you get him on that pull him up and say NO with a loud voice, at the same time look in his eyes and open your eyes big and look in his ones, be careful for your nose. Let him go when it’s getting unpleasant for him and say one more time NO. Repeat that until he stops doing that. Know it will help you.
