You'd need to keep the dog still for an hour or more with henna or indigo. No rolling, no smooshing fur into a crate..
Cider was tied to an outdoor tie out and managed to get dye on places I didn't want it.. Dekka's heart being a small area was baby powdered so it wouldn't smudge.
My guess would be airbrushing. There's an entire set with tiger and panda pics from the same 'exhibit'.
