Well, we don't adhere strictly to BLW, we probably will feed some purees, but this is fun too! He didn't eat/swallow anything, just put the broccoli in his mouth and knawed on it a little for practice. By the end, the poor broccoli was mutilated. Lol. He didn't want much to do with the carrot because he really couldn't pick it up as easily as the broccoli.

How cute he is! At least he could get the broccoli mutilated. :D I am not sure about the carrot. I guess it is too hard for him. Doesn't it hurt his gum?

They were both cooked. And he's teething right now, so he probably would have liked it even better if they weren't cooked. He hates his teethers unless they are frozen, otherwise they aren't hard enough.

BLW was a lot of fun. We didn't do it totally, but did offer some items we wouldn't have otherwise before she was eating table foods exclusively!

For me BLW is just really neat. The child is in control and learns to pick up and chew his/her own food, instead of being force fed purees. It is just such a more positive experience with food for Mason. We tried Mason on rice cereal twice, and both times he'd use his tongue to push it out. He'd also try sucking it in, causing him to gag. Family members told us to keep forcing it on him, because if he didn't learn now he might never learn.:rofl1: Until he can bring food to the back of his throat and swallow, he's just not ready. But this way at least he can get some practice, have some fun, and investigate food (because he is always grabbing for our food). I sure do get a lot of funny looks though when ever I mention BLW and that he's still not on any solids or rice and that I don't plan on starting on purees anytime soon until his tongue thrust goes away.

It is just societal pressures and there are plenty of them out there. The most common one for me now is that people can't believe that I didn't stop BFing Devin the day she turned 1! And a lot couldn't believe I was going to go that long. We are still going strong at 14 months and based on her reaction to me, I don't think she will be weaning anytime soon!

People push solids so early. A lot of babies aren't ready for them until they are 6 months and some even later. Do your research and remember, it is your child. People mean well, we all just have different parenting styles. :)

Also, remember, solids in the first year are for learning and playing anyway. They still get most of their nutritional needs from BM/Formula.
