Well I'm a graduate of both Texas A&M and U. of Texas (med school, internship & residency) but my blood remains Aggie Maroon & White!!! Do believe we'll (TAMU) go to a bowl game and perhaps even beat the Horns this year----it's been quite some time since the Ags have done that!!!
Here's (another Lone Star Beer) to the Vols football season!!!! Got to love your mascot----what's his name? At TAMU, we have Reveille, a collie.

Thanks, Gig!

And, as football season begins, our states share the Big Orange Power "T" :D

Don't know how well we'll do this year . . . the quarterback situation is dismal . . . Ainge has an arm, but no poise. Hit him once and he freaks. He's no Casey Clausen.

Smokey, the Blue Tick Hound.

Funny story . . . Charley's cousin had a partial scholarship as Smokey's handler for a couple of years. He convinced Smokey that only UT jerseys were allowed in HIS end zone  He actually bit a 'Gator  Of course, nobody really minded that little indiscretion, lol!

Smokey is one fine looking fellow---I'll have to investigate the history of your mascot. Reveille and Bevo both have rather colorful histories that might be of interest to you. Smokey bit a Gator? As in a U. of Florida football player? I bet the Vol fans loved that scene in the end zone........wished I could've seen it!!!!!

Yup . . . a two-legged Gator. Smokey is officially a Gator Hater. Apparently they DO taste like chicken :D

I am sorry I did not update sooner It was quite a battle lat night up till an hour ago but the battle is over and I lost the crucial fight. Last night I went to give her a bottle and she had maggots going in and out of her eyes.. Mouth and nose. I fed her she sorta picked up. She began having bloody stool . We descovered she was trerribly annemic. (sp) Her body finnally found peace about an hour ago. the vet said she must have had some sickness in her brain (it explains the maggots. ) The worms had starved her she was on a one way road and I couldnt stop her fast enough. She never walked around she always layed. I had to hoist her up to give her a bottle or to change the straw from under her (I did it daily) I told her previous owner two weeks ago that she was sick and he said no. Then a wek past and he began to believe me. Then she was "better" NOT Then she was improving and he wanted me to take her. But he didnt think she would make it. I should have stolen her day one. I am sitting here bawling not only for the loss of Gertie but possibly the loss of so many others. This is the third cow in 2 weeks that has died of similar reasoning. (not including the last cow I got from him that was sick and died the same day I got her.
He askes me to give him a miricle .. The only one I am giving him so far is holding my temper not to totally bug out on him. To him its just a cow. I guess b/c he has so many what is a dozen or two dieing. I will never get to the point in my life where I wil let an animal pass away without shedding a tear. Every animal has a life it has that want for love. And I cannot live without at least trying.

My only pain right now is for the 20 sum other bottle baby cows there that may be sick .. but not only them but the new ones that are brought in daily as they are birthed into this sickness and filth.

Our lil goat is still hanging in there battling death for 5 weeks now. It will crush me nad my mom to lose her.

I am still going to open an animal sanctuary for dieing and sick animals. Somebody has to care to close their eyes after their spirit passes. Somebody has to gently carry it over to its grave.Somebody needs to rejoice when one survives and thrives and that person should be me. I am going to need a new barn that I can section off to give individual attention to each animal. But as my parents say its my dream/goal my responsibility to get it up and going. So I am debating making a new thread about my dream.
I am going to truly miss My lil Gertie.

I am so very sorry Mandie :( You are an angel...Gertie was able to feel genuine love and compassion before passing onto her next phase, and that is the most beautiful gift anyone can ever give..

I look forward to hearing about your dream of an animal sanctuary, and I will certainly support you in any way I am able to.
Sending you comfort and hugs...

Mandie . . . it's always hard when you lose one, and you never really get used to it, but you will find a way to look at it, not as a loss, but as having given that special creature something it would never have had otherwise - a knowledge of a human's touch with love and care.

Have you ever read James Herriot's books? I think you would enjoy them and I think the stories will inspire you, make you laugh and help you deal with the inevitable losses of life.

Thanks all for the words of support and wisdom.
I did not go in to work today I could not stomach it. But I did however go yesterday afternoon with my mom and told them all their cows were going to die if they did not clean out thier cages and worm and continue to clean the cages. I can only hope they listen. If not I may find myself cleaning them.

Rennee no I have not read any of James Herriots books. I will look into them though.
