Is he with his mom still, or is he weaned already? Technically training starts with the mom, and then when he comes home you can start lightly training. Depending on what you want to do.

You are in for a rough ride so better buckle up. Without his littermates around to teach him what is/isn't ok you need to be the judge of that, in fair terms a pup that young can understand. He needs to be able to play bite something...better get a bunch of stuffy toys. His teeth are going to be hurting him as he starts teething and chewing is the only way to relieve the pressure. Give him tons of toys. If he bites you, put him in a crate or room away from you for a two minute time out. Then go back and play, play, play, with the toys that are Ok for him to have. At this age it will be a struggle to train him in any way. He has only been here for four weeks, he is just learning the lay of the land so to speak. You will have to be extremely patient with him. I don't want to sound mean but shame on your uncle for letting a pup go that young, he shouldn't be breeding if he doesn't know that a pup has to stay with its mom and littermates for at least seven weeks, perferebly longer. For training, I would only focus on teaching him what is Ok to chew on and what isn't and a bit of the old potty training. Save the hard stuff for when he is adjusted to your home.

Well Said Adrienne. By weaned I meant "no longer relying on mom for food or playing with littermates, that he's no longer there with them, and all by his lonesome with you."

good luck! He is awfully young to be by himself.

well start training the earlier the better. Ofcourse you won't be able to take him out around other dogs and people until he is fully vaccinated though. But just work with him on different commands. There's no reason why you can't work on sit and stuff with a 4 week old. I got my lab at ALMOST 8 weeks and I started right away on sit and wait and housebreaking. Although don't expect housebreaking to really take effect until he's around 3 months. Make sure you train him good. Being a pitbull and being taken away at such a young age he'll need lots of training. I have a pitbull mix and he's a handful!

that sucks. Why did your uncle give the pups away at such a young age? Just do the best you can with your puppy. I think you will do an awesome job. Once he is vaccinated are you going to look into doing any puppy schooling with him? That might be a good thing to look into.
