I was looking on ebay at kong chew toys and noticed they now have a blue one that is claimed to be the strongest one yet. Not the puppy or senior light blue one, but a solid royal blue color.

This was copied from an ebay auction:

Kong Blue
Kong Blue's are 25% stronger than regular Kong toys (in excess of 3800 psi). They can also be stretched up to 9 times their original length and they're highly puncture resistant. It's now being used by powerful chewers around the world like police K-9 teams, drug enforcement and military K-9 teams, AKC competition trainers, Shutzhund Clubs and more. Puncture resistant, bouncy, and chewer friendly. Satisfies a dog's natural need to chew cleans teeth and conditions gums. Thick, flexible walls that keep springing back for more! Non-toxic, nonabrasive, non-splintering, and does not get sharp when chewed. Recommended by veterinarians, trainers, dog professionals and satisfied customers world wide.

Has anyone here tried them yet? I want to get Cookie one, but am undecided on whether to get the red, black or blue. She is quite a chewer already, so I want one that will last a long time.

IME, there's not a lot of difference (durability-wise) between the red and the black. I've never used the blue, but I imagine it's pretty similar. If they're the same price, I'll usually buy the black rather than the red, just because it MAY be more durable.

My understanding has always been that the black was the strongest...there's a reason it's called "extreme";)

The blue ones aren't all that new - we had them at a kennel I worked at 5 years ago. And they were much more chewed up than the red ones we had, so I have a hard time believing they're stronger.

Well, on Amazon the Blacks are 'recommended for power chewers' Amazon.com: Kong Company K2 Medium Black Extreme Dog Toy: Kitchen & Dining

And the dark blues state they are '25% stronger than regular kongs and being used by power chewers' Amazon.com: Kong Blue - Xtra Large: Kitchen & Dining

So I have no clue of they are saying blues are stronger than blacks, LOL, but if Cookie is a good chewer, I'd definitely skip the red and go straight to a blue or black :) Orson ate a red in no time flat but his black is holding steady, and so is his black kong bone!

And for good measure.........AVOID THE KONG WUBBA. Orson ate his in less than 30 minutes!

Maybe the blue ones are more fun to chew. :p

Some twisted part of me secretly wants a dog that is a powerful chewer so I have an excuse to buy toys like this:

Thanks for the info. I'm wondering if the bue ones are chewier? I can't imagine a kong stretching nine times its original size. It almost makes me want to get one and try it. LOL!

Well, we decided on a black one and were planning to wait until Christmas. But......granddaughter is here and literally cried when she found out Cookie wasn't getting her new toys today. So, how could I refuse?

She got a black kong, a jolly ball on a rope and a nobby rubber ring. She loves them all. She jumped right on the kong even before I could put treats in it!

But she wasn't too happy about her Christmas collar! LOL!

Looks like the toys are a hit.

FWIW I have found the blue kongs to be more durable than the blacks - they seem more flexible so they don't split as readily. There is a blue off-brand toy with a similar shape that is much weaker, so you have to make sure it's actually the VetOne Kong that is blue and radio-opaque.

Here's our dog's old black vs a new black. The old one was about 2 yrs old, but not used constantly.

:lol-sign: I just noticed Gunnar in the bottom corner of the picture, eyeing them.

Boy, if looks could kill... I'd sleep with one eye open for awhile. :D :D

Glad the toys were a hit - none of my dogs are interested in the kongs unless there's food stuffed in them.

I have had good luck with the blue kongs. Much more luck than with the reds. I have used a couple of the blacks too, and never really had a problem.

I just want to point out, since it appears that your pup is still pretty young, that the red, black, and blue kongs were made for adult dogs. Be very careful and check the kong often for punctures. The adult kongs are made for greater jaw pressure, but duller teeth. On the other hand, the puppy kongs are made to be more pliable but tolerate puppy teeth better.

Yes, I thought of this, but Cookie is a major chewer and has destoyed almost all of her toys already. Even the nobby ring she got just yesterday. It was a pliable rubber-type and she literally ripped off the little nobby things and chewed the ring in half. This took about 3 minutes.

This is why I went ahead and got the black one. I am still thinking about getting a blue one at some point. I'll check it every time she plays with it.
