I've had three min pins and all were hyper. Two of them chewed on anything ... literally anything. They can be a challenge for small children because they don't realize how rough they play.

Personal protection. Fortunately, she was born with the drive for it, and intelligence to wait for the command to use it.

She's VERY active and friendly with humans and other dogs. The best dog I've had yet.

I'm not the trainer, but here's my take on this. The main distinguishing factor would be that in obedience, the dog was given a command, they know they were given a command, and then they freely chose to not perform as asked, hence the correction (if even by the stave/stick/whatever ;) )...

Not skirting the question you posed, but humans and dogs are not the same. Humans are verbal and dogs are physical (this appears to be consistent between both schools of thought, it's just the method itself that's under debate).

The malinois belongs to my husband.

They're definitely a tough breed, but she's the most loyal and intelligent dog I have ever owned. You have to dedicate a lot of time to this breed because they are very active and they love to work and play, but it's been very rewarding.
