Slippery slope is getting slipperier!

BILL

Bear in mind YOU will not be defining any of the below..."someone else" with who knows what views and/or training...will be.

'Confine an animal in a cruel manner' or cruel confinement of an animal' means confining an animal by means of a cage, crate, pen, or similar confinement under circumstances in which the person intends to endanger the animal's health or safety, or the person reasonably should have known would endanger the animal's health or safety. 'Confine an animal in a cruel manner' or 'cruel confinement of an animal' includes, but is not limited to, a confinement that:

(a) confines an animal for such an unreasonable period of time that the animal's health or safety is endangered;
(b) does not permit an animal to stand, turn around, sit, and lie down in a normal position;
(c) cause bodily injury to an animal;
(d) does not permit an animal access to sustenance;
(e) does not permit proper ventilation for an animal; or (f) is not kept in a sanitary condition.

*bangs head on desk*

My mom hasn't believed what I tell her about the AR activists and their agendas till I read this one aloud to her.

I was never big on crates until I got my cat Bella. I bought a crate for her because she is the most annoying cat to do any sort of house work around. Now her and Miley sleep together in it at night even if you don't lock them in. I <3 my crate.

Yeah, sounds decent, but its all in the details.

When I crated Buster (overnight at first, or the first 2 days in the new apartment) he didn't get water. He would stick his blankets in it and make a mess. Are soaked blankets sanitary?

Miley and Bella have a dish that is raised up off the ground. That works for us well. However it never looks like they drink any. They are too busy being in love with eachother/sleeping/snuggling to notice.

I never used a crate until we got Tucker as a puppy. He was such a hyper active puppy at night no matter what and made it impossible to sleep. He was also the first puppy we had for years since we had that time period between the farm and house we have now where no where pets were allowed in our apartment. So both my mom and I were rusty with puppy training.

Now I pretty much swear by it. He loves his crate and is often sleeping in it at his own will at 2 years old. He is closed in there at night and when we are not home (my moms choice which I agree with). He never gets food or water in his crate unless its a dog biscuit. And he survives just fine and is far from abused or neglected.

When I first got Maggie from the rescue she had just turned a year old. She lived her entire life outdoors and I was told she would be impossible to housebreak. I beleive the crate helped. Time has past and she's completely housebroken. Now because she's my dog and is very calm and well behaved she is trustworthy to be left loose in the house when no one is home and she sleeps with me on the couch. Now her crate is just used for when certain people come over.

*sigh* I can't say I didn't expect it. It's a natural progression after the whole "no tethering" craze.

(c) cause bodily injury to an animal
Well, this morning Morgan was waiting her turn to go out to potty while I had the mals out, and when I got back ~ no more than 2 minutes ~ she had blood all over her nose. She had just the tiniest of scrapes, nothing that even needed any vet care, but man do those capillaries bleed!! She's done that once before - the last time she bled worse, but it was still totally superficial ~ blood was all over the crate and the walls.

Tyr was waiting to get out of his cage once and he broke a toenail - slit it going straight up the middle.

*Gosh* I should just get rid of the crates and let them eat each other, poison themselves, electrocute themselves, jump out windows...

Yea, I knew this day would come - I just had hoped it would be a little longer.

What have we been doing for the last 9 months?? This doesn't only apply to this bill, but I've noticed that most of the bills that get posted here get posted several months after they were first introduced. And not just here, but other websites as well. Even websites that are for the purposes of alerting and fighting these bills seem to not have anything sufficiently current. It makes it a lot harder to fight them when we don't know about them.

This is even more utterly ridiculous than the tethering issue. And what's worse is there is already a precedent for people believing that crating is a cruel endevor anyway, so this has the potential to get bigger, meaner and voted on quicker than the tether.

yes. Note the lack of clear definition of said crate or pen.

It could be a 10' x 6' run that your dog gets a toenail caught on while he's out to potty for 15 minutes...:yikes:

This is so very clearly aimed and dog show, dog sport, dog fosterer type folks,....it's not even funny. I can see it now...AR weinies wandering thru a show calling on their phones to report every single dog without food in it's crate, whether charges are brought or stick, is irrelevant I am sure...the "fun" for them is in the flap created and the stress to good people.

I used a crate for Daisy when she was a puppy. Now she is allowed free reign of the main floor, along with Benji. I have taken to babygating the stairs because Daisy will go upstairs to the attic (it has no door) and rip up trash and things, and Benji will poop/pee in the attic, the little brat :p.

My dad was against crating Daisy when she was a puppy because he thought it was "mean" but he learned that it was a useful tool for keeping puppy from destroying the house.

I still use a crate for Ozzy sometimes. Its like insurance. Even though he hasnt eaten anything for like, a year now. And he likes it. He sleeps in there on his own.
