Ok, so the visit did not start out well... our vet looked at him, looked at us and said "he looks worse."
Not EXACTLY what we wanted to hear as were hoping for better news. She also said that the "spots" were not typical of demodex mites and she thought that perhaps he had an underlying bacterial infection (like when we first discovered the mites in the first place).
Skin Scraping.... NO MORE MITES!!!! YAY!!! Not any sign whatsoever of the mites, such a relief, because we were told that it was something he could possibly not recover from (given his health history). However, he will continue with his treatments as originally planned to make darn sure they do not return. AND, he has antibiotics to help with the infection and some antiseptic and some cream... lots of meds (poor baby).
I have not seen him yet, as he is still at the hospital, but they had to shave his head poor, poor baby, I can't imagine my Buddy without, well, his fur! But, it will help clear up the infection sooner as it will help us with the topical meds that he needs 3 times/day.
So, even though it may seem like more doom... the visit went VERY well and we heard exactly what we wanted to hear... NO MORE MITES!!! Wheee!
I get to pick him up in a couple of hours, he gets lots of lovins and a special treat when he gets home! My brave boy!!
