I was so messed up, stiff, basically locked from pain when i got Victor. Out of desperation to get his beyond hyper activity down to a level that would not destroy us I took him to the park and made my goal to walk to the baseball diamond and back. It has been a long time since I had even attempted to move much at all. Victor in the mean time ran about 3 miles in circles around the valley. By the time i got back, about a block's distance, he had had the time he needed. It was good for me. Moving helped ease the pain in my joints and seeing him run is pure poetry and that was the best medicine of all for my soul. I can't see that being any being any different. If I hadn't found a place where he could run off leash, that might have been another story but I did. So maybe it is the same for someone in pain doing agility with their dog.

Well, add me to the list of people who have looked at someone and thought "they don't look like they'd own an -insert breed here-". Like if I were to see someone all made up, with their $400 purse, wearing heels etc (like, someone from one of the Real Housewives lol)... I think I'd be a little surprised if they owned a rottie or something. I'd be more apt to think they're a "teacup chihuahua" kind of person who carries their dog in a purse.

Or if I saw a really burly guy, with a mini poodle wearing a sweater... I'd probably do a double take.

But, I think that is different from saying you don't look like the RIGHT PERSON for that breed. I don't think the burly guy SHOULDN'T own a poodle, or that the uber feminine woman shouldn't own a rottweiler... it's just not what I'd expect. But I'm not saying they're not the "right kind" of person for those breeds.

Soooo yeah the person who said that is crazy. :p

I've never met a straight man who owns a yorkie.
Well, there's my father in law. lol. He's a burly Mexican yardworker who drinks beers and loves ogling beautiful girls on TV. . . and carrying around his little yorkie buddy. lol He loves that dog.

This is awesome, because my FIL's sister is a teeny tiny beautiful Mexican woman who works as a hairdresser in a beauty salon. She's got long pretty nails, gorgeous hair, etc. You'd expect her to have a tiny cute purse dog.

What does she have? An American bully (one of the gotti/razor's edge types) and a bull terrier. :D

I agree! I love men who love their little dogs.

I'm not sure which kind of breed I'd look like I'd own. I'm only 5'2", so I'm sure people would give me strange looks if I owned a huge dog, though.

I've never met a straight man who owns a yorkie.
My brother is straight as an arrow, in fact married now, but when he was single he owned a 4lb. Pomeranian.
He LOVED that dog - dog has passed away now, but one day while fishing - in Alaska (where we lived @ the time) he lost the dog.
He was almost in tears, driving around calling the dog's name, etc.
Turned out the dog had fallen in the bay and had crawled up under the dock where the flotation part of the structure was, and was clinging there, and whimpering. Some people heard the dog and told my brother. He managed to get the little guy out.
Brought him home and bathed him in the sink, all the while crying tears of joy that the dog was alive.

Another time, my brother had gone out of town and the dog disappeared while I was watching him.
I called the police dept. and told them, "My brother's dog is missing!" They said "Who is your brother??" I told them, and they were like "That little Pomeranian?? OMG - we have to find that thing!!" :lol-sign: what a riot, even the cops knew of my brother and his beloved little red dustmop.

I found him down the road a ways, attempting to breed with a stray Chihuahua and next thing that happened, he got neutered.
In Alaska, we only had access to a traveling vet on occasion but the next occasion the vet came through, "Fox" lost his boys. :lol-sign:

I've had a few people tell me (in much kinder words, mind you) that I don't look like a BC owner because I'm rather overweight.
Same here, and owning huskies all my life. People who think/say things like that can shove it. I walk about two miles a day, thank you very much, and am perfectly capable of exercising my dogs regardless of my weight. Not to mention, even people who can't walk can always take their dogs to a fenced area to run, or do agility or another sport with them to exercise them.

Fran that would have really bothered me too...

I've had people get on me for having a BC mix as well because I'm a little overweight and apparently me being a little overweight means my dog gets no exercise... I ignore them... Bamm gets plenty of exercise... he gets to run a LOT and we go for walks a lot as well. He's in fantastic shape actually. When I moved into an apartment a while back ago (I'm in a house with a yard now) I didn't have a yard and it was only a little 2 bedroom house. People told me I needed to rehome Bamm because he would no longer have a yard to run in. He handled apartment life just fine. We just took more walks and went over to a friend's place a lot so he could run.

I wonder what dog I look like I should own... hmmm...

There's a few straight men I've met with Yorkies in particular actually. This one guy lives in Alaska (never met him, just online friend) who is married and has two Yorkies who are very outdoorsy dogs. I mean, they live in Alaska, I guess they have to be.

I've met two different guys at the dog park, one with a Yorkie/Chi who was all of 4lbs and also had a Chi, and the other dude had a 10lb Yorkie- said he got him in college and the dog was now 9yrs old. And on my Yorkie forums, we get the occasional guy... it's not as common, for sure, but I'd say there's about 5 active straight guy members.

People think I am crazy to own Terriers and look at me funny when I say I live with <GASP> TWO of them.

When I get my CC or a mastiff I am sure I will get all kinds of looks and weird questions, because I am this small petit girl who always dresses cute and I will have this huge, masculine looking dog.

I think I will make a funny sight! :)

I don't really feel like going back and finding where Allie said it but I am totally guilty of doing a double take when overweight people have Border Collies or another active breed. When I was overweight I had a hard time keeping up with my BCs... but that being said the best Border Collie owners I know are overweight. So I don't know why my brain even goes there.

I get told all the time I look so "normal" for the things I am into. Looks are so decieving. :D
