LOL.

I -look- good with the big guardian breeds. Mastiffs, danes, large Rottweilers... I don't think she would approve of me with a border collie either. Maybe I'm not SERIOUS enough. :p lolol

Ugh, that's so offensive! Kudos for just walking away, I'm not sure I would have, LOL.

Now I'm all curious as to what kind of dog I look like I should own, too ...

Okay, I'm going to be the odd man out and say, so what? Like none of you have ever seen someone with a certain breed of dog and thought...wow that breed is not right for them.

I've thought it many times. Granted, I have enough common sense to keep my mouth shut, but still thought it.

I have been told by people that have known me my entire life that they didn't think I was weird enough to own those "ugly hairless dogs". *shrug*

Yeah I guess I wouldn't really care...think it was odd yes, but not really care.

Count me as one who now wonders what kind of dog I am supposed to be with lol. I kinda want to borrow my sister's little 8lb toy dog now and see how differently I am treated...then again I really like her dog...that dog is badass for a little tyke lol

I can honestly say I never have. I don't even know what that means to have a breed by "right" for somebody based on their appearance...
I have KNOWN people and heard them talk about getting a breed and thought "Oh boy... you have no idea what you're getting into..." but I've never just looked at somebody I don't know, looked at their dog, and somehow made a judgment about the kind of person they must be and the relationship they must have with their dog based on how they "look."

I mean, sometimes I think people look LIKE their dogs lol but I don't think dogs have owners that all somehow have a certain "look" to them, stereotyping is not nice, and usually, its wrong.
and even if they did somehow all "look" the same... WHO THE HELL says it to someone?

"That dog needs a serious person."
oh I'm sorry..

like Ive said, Im not gonna lie, I HAVE thought it before, but thats just me going off my on ASSumptions, and well lets face it we all have them, but I would NEVER EVER say that to someone like that person said it to you... thats just rude and uncalled for...

I do try and not ASSume things like that, but well we're all human and bound to ASSume once in awhile ;)

I've had a few people tell me (in much kinder words, mind you) that I don't look like a BC owner because I'm rather overweight. Then they come over and see me run around my yard with him and tend to change their minds. :rofl1:

I definitely know I don't "look" the part, and I admit as well to often looking at people and thinking "wow, that seems an odd breed for that person" but I would never say it to someone. What do I know about their background or what they do/don't do with their dog?

The only people who would ever think that have obviously never been to an agility trial... it's about 50/50 when it comes to people who are athletic, fit, or average and people who are heavier, overweight, or even people who have serious physical problems that cause them to literally hobble the course. There is a woman around here who has such a severe leg injury she really cannot get around the course, she just kind of staggers around in a very small circle about in the middle of the course - my mom watched her and said "I am actually in pain just from watching her" - and she has a border collie. Handles it fairly well too.

Maybe that's why I just don't get what it would mean to "look" like a certain kind of dog owner... because I know it can be really varied, and trying to stereotype is a complete waste of time IMO.

I agree with Beanie. I've honestly never thought someone shouldn't have a breed of dog based on what they look like. Their lifestyle? Their dog experience? Sure. But not because of their appearance. And certainly never because they weren't "serious" enough, LOL.

I'm also a person that has considered breeds in pretty much every breed group.

People tend to think that cresteds are odd in general.

I also collect skull and crossbones things, and have a skull collection in my house. I've been told that I don't 'look' like the person who would collect that.

I also don't 'look' like I enjoy rock music best (they said country, no, thanks, not for me). I 'look' french (no southern accent). And, I 'look' like a "pearl girl." I'm not really sure what that last one means.

Fran, try to ignore it. As long as you, and whatever dog you have in your life is happy, it's not worth trying to figure people out.

Oh, also, I look like a person who doesn't cuss. Well......that just tells me that the person has never hung out with me much.

yup, I've seen about half and half too. One of the ladies at Finn's herding class was very heavy and walked with a limp - she still trained with her dog and did quite a good job.

People are quick to judge, I guess.

The closest I ever came was when an idiot woman let her dane drag her across the lawn while screaming "IT'S OKAY! HE'S FRIENDLY! HE'S FRIENDLY!". After which her dog proceeded to bite Strider's face.

Then I realized, it wasn't the fact that she was a 90 lb woman walking a dane, it was the fact that she was a moron letting a large aggressive untrained dog drag her all over the park and bite other people's dogs.

Fran, you should have just shrugged and said, "Well, I do just fine with my Fila." Either that, or take my route and say loudly, "How RUDE!"

I used to be a nice person.

That would have made me mad too. One time someone told me I didn't look like a runner... uhhh... I have legs right? (And I was in the best shape of my life at the time, thank you very much.)

I have to remind myself from time to time that just because someone says something, doesn't make it true.
