I think they're pretty ridiculous as a "fashion statement," but that's just me. A personal opinion and nothing more. I generally think that the dog's look speaks for itself, and anything more than a simple collar is guilding the lily. For whatever reason I think the irony of having one of those collars on a Chi or other small dog is far more preferable to putting one on a Dobe or a Rott, which is just like trying to hit someone over the head with an image that (for the most part) DOESN'T need anymore tarnishing than it already has.

My dogs only wear collars when we go to shows or on walks, and even then I HAVE to use martingales, or risk dogs slipping out of their leads.

At any rate, I think such collars look sort of goofy on Nordic breeds.

This is the collar I just purchased for my ACD. It is 2 inches wide and has beautiful detailing around the edges. I am having the maker do it in black and mahogany with the Celtic emblem replacing the paw print :D I like studs for my boy and would probably buy something with studs and spikes, but collars like the one shown is what I like best ;)

that is a gorgeous peice of leather art, does the artist have a website...

Its kinda funny, take the mahogany coloured peice off the back and my own personal collar looks much like it lol.
the renny in my apreciates the carving, the sub in me apreciates the workmanship that collar looks comfy, which is somehting to be said for wide leather collars, the dog owner in me thinks...i wonder if they make them in itty bitty sizes for the chis lol.

That's a striking collar. :) I do admit to having a fondness for studded collars, I think they look very classy. Just not wild about spikes on pet dogs, unless it's making an ironic statement (lol, like the spiked harness on my Papillon. :p)

Thanks guys for the compliments on his Celtic renaisance collar :D It is gorgeous I must say :) As soon as I receive it I will take pics of it on Caiza. This maker has received 100% comments on his products so people seem very pleased with him and their collars! I can't wait to get it!

That is an awesome collar; but can I suggest; please do not use the ring on the front; if your collar that you had made has the ring; if there is any possibility that your dog could pull against it; they can do some nice damage to the underside of their jaw or their throat.

We have a canadian crafter of agility collars who have placed the handle directly opposite the buckle; which is an idiotic placement for a dog that is going to pull against the collar because they want to go.

If Caiza doesn't pull; not a biggie of course; then the ring is just for decoration anyway; but if he could pull, I'd place his leash on the other ring by the buckle.

Just a teeny suggestion.

That is handsome .... I could admire that on a regale Dobe neck ! I'll stick to my rolled collars for long haired dogs.

This is a spiked a collar I would put on my boy from the same maker that is making his Celtic collar I just ordered :) I don't care for the rows of spikes but I like how spaced out these are.

Just wanted to add:

:yikes: I can see the protection benefit for a working dog, but......

I would hope there would be a law against Joe Shmo walking his pet down the road in something like that! Because you just KNOW there is some idiot out there that would give it a try!

Probably not. One thing these types of collars succeed in doing-when the public is already overly aggressive about things like BSLs- is scare the bejesus out of others. These days a collar like that might as well come with a sign that says, "My dog can kill you". That is how the average person perceives this kind of thing on a dog that is large or is on the infamous "list". If that's the goal it definitely is met. Most people who walk down the street are not people who have a clue about dogs beyond owning Fido and what they can visually take in. They do NOT see spiked collars as a fashion statement, they see them as a danger statement. These things do not help the cause.

This is just food for thought that I am sure might continue this thread for a long time to come. But during such a sensitive time when so many dogs are already labeled as "dangerous," why would anyone want to play into the hands of the public at large? They already seem to have enough fuel.
