Kona has had quite a few collars like these (notice I said "had". She likes to eat leather), and I think she looks smashing in them!!

Like ACoop said, Kona has a long neck as well, and not all collars look so nice on her. So I buy her the thick leather ones with either spikes or studs. She is a stocky girl too, so she looks awsome in them!

They look really tough and stylish on a dog like a Dobe but wouldn't work at all on a little Yorkie.

If you have a problem with collars like this, then you're going to HATE the turkish spiked collars.

Out in the pasture, doing their jobs watching and protecting flocks from marauders, I can see the usefulness in those. If I were sending a pack of Filas out hunting coyotes around here I can see where those collars would be good protection. They'd need to come off right after the hunt though!

Boy, I post this last night, log off, watch American idol, and just returned late this morning and 3 pages worth :D Glad you guys had fun with this thread :p
However,I totally get the whole "Livestock guarding dog" thing and would put one on my dogs neck if that was his job. I have seen people at the dog park I walk through with those big 2 inch wide spiked collars on there pets. If your dog needs to be protected going to a dog park from other dogs then it shouldn't be at one ;) those could hurt another dog just by playing! Unfortunately, the majority of dog owners who use them on there dogs are just "pets" and have no job to have to protect themselves from predators. I guess they are more for show than anything. I don't mind spiked collars just wouldn't put one on a dog that extremely spiked! Those are some BIG DAGGERS :yikes: !

i agree, on a working breed, i have 100% no issue with a heavy duty spiked collar, and as a fashion statment i have no problem, heck i have a baby pink spiked collar for my 5lb chihuahua girly, im looking for a mint green one and a baby blue one for my 2 3lb males, lol. but when it comes to lazing round at home or playing a simple plain leather or nylon collar, its ridiculous of those that put these collars on their dogs then off to the dog park where a spike to the gum or eye is inevitable!

on people i did go through a spiked collar phase but it was always small spike, now im fine with my simple handmade leather collar with simple rounded studs, MUCH safer during playtime :D but thats just my preference, i actually USE mine for something other than protection (and not as a fasion acessory lol)

Pffft. Those spikes are weak. Get one of these.

I'm going to get one for my dog so she can perforate the couch and my legs. Oh yeah. And I can spike notes onto her collar so she can act as a messenger for me! Dude!

As a fashion statement is how 99.9999% of people use spiked collars on dogs. The comment about protecting them from other dogs makes me think: 1) yeah, so why aren't Greyhounds and Yorkie the ones wearing them, instead of Rotties and pit bulls? and 2) hmmmm, maybe I'll buy one for Hen.

Some of those spiked collars are rediculous. I hate the look of spicked collars anyways, but sheesh, going a bit overboard?

I understand the use of them for working dogs, but I think it just serves as the owner's ego boost for your average pet. But then again, I think people go overboard with all these collars in the first place. My dogs each have one collar to go to places in but they never wear them except for being out and none of them are fancy at all. I guess to each his own. I rarely put anything on my dogs- just show leads, collars when needed, and sweaters for the little two during snowstroms.

Not to mention, you can never see any of my dogs' collars anyways if they're wearing one.

Our Radar had a little black leather spiked collar. For about 2 days. Then it somehow came off, not sure if I didn't fit if right or if Lilly helped pull it off, and Lilly ate the entire thing! It was a fun few days, sifting through her poop to find all the spikes. I actually went back to the store and counted the spikes on a similar size one to be sure we got them all.

I like spiked/studded collars, but not that extreme lol. I'm also a fan of.. uh.. sighthound collars? The really wide ones that greyhounds are usually seen wearing.

I make collars like the one pictured and I have to warn people (usually bully buyers), some rotties and dobes; that this is a special occasion collar, that you don't want your dog to hang out with other dogs and you NEVER want to have to grab your dog by the collar for any reason - has turned quite a few people off the 1" spikes to the smaller, duller tipped ones.

I have actually had a few very intelligent people ask me for the rhinestones or pretty colours for their dogs so they don't appear so "aggressive", some APBT and Corso owners.

I have a spiked collar much like that first one for OC only in brown. The spikes arent dulled at all. But he doesnt wear it all the time, only on special occassions ;) And never if I know I want him interacting with other dogs. Dont have one for Ronan yet though....

When I get my LGD and hopefully my ranch, they will deffinately have the Turkish type when on patrol.
