First dog was a Chessie named Ranger. I dont know when we got him, but we had to give him up when I was 5 or 6. One of my earliest memories is going out and feeding him an egg. My own first dog was JoJo, a black, lab/dachshund cross. She was the size of a dachshund, but had the body of a lab! I think I was 7 when we adopted her.

The first dog my family had when I was a kid is Ginger(turning 12 or 13 this December):

The first dog *I* myself ever owned and care for was Cocoa(as a baby):

My first dog was a pomeranian named Foxy. He was a sweet dog... but my parents bought him from a petstore. I was 5 years old, and he peed everywhere... so my parents gave him away :(

My parents got an English Springer Spaniel when I was two. Her name was Lacey and we grew up together. She died when I was 16 and tears come to my eyes just thinking about it. She was deaf and had a really hard time getting around towards the end. My parents tried to talk to me about putting her to sleep, but I just started balling. The vet we had wouldn't allow us to be in the room with her when she was pts. She would start shaking whenever we went in there and I just couldn't have her die scared and alone. But she died a week later at home, so I'm glad we waited. She was the sweetest dog I've ever know and I'll always miss her.

My very first dog was when I was 5. She was, we think a Beagle mix. She was tan and medium sized...sort of on the small end of medium. Her name was Ginger too Tessa. She lived to be 18 years old.

Cleo. ^_^

Me and Cleo.

If she's still alive she'll be 13 this june. There aren't many things in my life that I regret, but letting go of Cleo is one of them...my dad gave her to a friend of his who lived on a farm, because she kept digging out of the fence, and we were afraid she'd be hit by a car, or be picked up by the pound, so my dad gave her away while i was at school one day...that was one of the saddest days ever. I cried SO much. :( I suppose in my heart, I know it was best for her, but I miss her so much, even to this day, and I wonder if she's still alive, and missing me as much as I miss her.....She was a GREAT dog, and she is the reason I love dogs so much today. :D

I had my first dog when I was about 16. It was mine, not the family dog. I picked it out, payed the adoption fee, payed the vet bills, EVERYTHING. She was a gorgeous belgian malinois that a family gave to the shelter because they had a baby. She would've been perfect with that baby too, unfortunately. But I was happy to have her. She died a long ways after of just ripe old age.

chin, ar eyou sure she would have been fine with that baby?

This is no excuse to just get rid of the dog, but when researching malinois in hopes of buying one from a breeder more than half of the belgians are in rescue because they do NOT handle change well. Unfortunately, this is what forced me to make the responsible decision to go with a more stable dog(because of my lifestyle and future).

A black cocker spaniel named Lucky when I was 3 years old. We didn't have him very long though, he bit me.

I pretty much consider Molly my first dog though. We got her when I was 7. Ha, yeah, that's totally me in dorky pajamas lol.
