I usually try not to complain about work, but this guy I called today was just a complete asshat. I'm a Recruiter for the American Cancer Society. Literally all I do is call community and businesses, introduce myself, say who I'm with, and ask if they would like to come out and walk with us on such and such date. And if they do, I additionally invite them to a free breakfast.
That's seriously it. It's all completely free, it's non-competitive, we have ZERO requirements for funraising or donations. We actually explain to these people that all we are looking for is their participation and support, to help celebrate and support those who are diagnose with cancer, are battling cancer, who has survived, who have died, and their friends and family. It is the VERY LOCAL community. Within ONE city, usually.
THAT IS IT. And even still, out of 200 calls I make a day, I might get anywhere from 0-6 people. The average is 3.
BUT THIS GUY. :wall::madgo:
First of all, it is a Garage. I have made around 200 calls per day, 5 days a week, for the last 4-5 weeks. 100% of Garages are rude, unhelpful, asshats, guys, and they gawf at the idea of one of them (or, apparently, their wives, sisters, mothers, daughters, etc) getting breast cancer and usually hang up in my face or sneer and say "no one HERE is interested in THAT". Second, the guy who answers doesn't even bother to answer me or listen to me AT ALL and hands me off to some guy called Chris. Chris and I have a convo that is something like this:
Me: *patiently and politely tries to say it again* "...who might be interested in our local walk this year - "
Chris: "Would you like brake pads or a clutch?"
Me: "Uhh....no" *tries to laugh it off* "I'm really just calling to see if anyone-"
Chris: "Oh, well, I'm asking if you'd like a clutch, or maybe rear brake pads? Because that's what I'm trying to do, because this is a business and that is what we do."
Me: "Okay, I understand you aren't interested, we are just outreaching to the local community... could you maybe pass me on to someone who might be, maybe the owner or another manager?"
Chris: *laughs in the background making fun of me and then blatantly hangs up in my face*
You know, when someone in your family is inevitably diagnosed with cancer, maybe even breast cancer, and you come crawling to us for emotional and financial support, looking to us to help you make it to appointments, help ends meet, or one of the MANY free services we offer to those affected....
I HOPE YOU FEEL LIKE ABSOLUTE CRAP YOU POS GREASE MONEY, FUME SNIFFING, HICK MOTHER****ER.
:madgo:
Seriously, how hard is it to just say, "No, I don't think anyone is interested in participating this year." WHY try and make something like this out to be a complete mockery and joke to your equally shitty friends an co-workers? You just made yourself look like a completely crappy human being devoid of any compassion or morals.
UGGGGGGHHHHH.
In other news, I'm beginning to think I don't have the temperament for this job.
