Went to practice Talon's car sensitivity and actually practiced his dog reactivity. lol

Took him to the park by the busy road, right before I was going to head home a lady and guy with GSD and Doberman came out of no where. The dogs were on lead and non-reactive so I decided to quickly practice some attention etc, which Talon did great. I thought they were heading up the hill, but they suddenly made a b-line for the center of the park. So I pack my things up to go, but then they let the dogs off lead and the dogs run to either side of the park and ignore their owners every time they called them. :yikes:

I was going to go to the other side of the park and walk around but then the dogs ran off towards the side I was going to as soon as I started walking. I decided to try to cross the busy road so I was at least on the other side if they came towards us, maybe they would stop. Of course this took forever and Talon was by that point a bit overwhelmed by all the cars and it was getting dark so the headlights (which he finds harder to resist chasing) were all on, he did well. Had to get off the sidewalk to let two people pass and of course they stop to talk when all I wanted to do was get home. They gave some advice too, "I had border collie before, let me tell you some advice. They won't listen to a single thing you say and they are nuts Until they hit 2 years old to the day! As soon as they hit their second birthday they are magically perfect dogs!" ...... I was like... suuuuure ok. Because my dog who is sitting there nicely doesn't listen to a thing.

Than we finally started walking again and not 10 steps later a lady with a black dog on a flexi comes around the corner. There was no room next to them and she obviously wasn't planning on stopping it from running up to us if we wanted. We aren't past the park so I can't cross the street so I have to wait while this dog does it's business, which took FOREVER! Than we start walking, almost reaching the corner were we can cross back to our side and a guy comes up with his big brindle mutt that's barking/growling it's head off at us. I go off to the side and keep Talons attention as they pass. Talon kept his cool! :)

Than on the way back I had to cross the street and there's this yellow lab on a chain a foot away from the fence going nuts. I can't cross the street because there is no sidewalk and it's a busy road. So I immediately do our "oops, this way" and turn around so Talon doesn't react. And wouldn't you know it, the brindle dog is headed right at us! >_<

I pull him towards these apartments so we are on the other side of these cars and but they are actually going to the apartments. oops. So I tell Talon this way again and get him to sit and he did SOOOO well!

We then have to make our way past the fence running lab going nuts a foot away from the sidewalk. I was a bit worried because it was soo close, going nuts, AND Talon already had a lot of self control, but he did so fantastic! Attention was kept on me except two times where I had to bring him back to me by walking backwards a bit. But both of those time there was no reaction, he just stopped to look at the other dog for minute and came back to me as soon as I started moving backwards, no tension on the leash even.

So, even though we were bombarded by so many dogs within a block of walking, a few of the dogs were being super reactive, and it took 30 minutes to get home along a busy road at night, Talon did fantastic!! :D This kind of makes me think he's ready for a visit to an agility trial (at least for a short while) even more. If he could handle all of that so well within a block of walking, for nearly 30 minutes, I don't think he'll have a problem outside an agility comp. ^_^

My dad signed up his golden retriever puppy for puppy class through my work and tonight was the first night. He actually came and wasn't just bullshitting me. Yay!!!!!

One thing I learned tonight though is my dad is a total class clown. Oh boy.

The night ended with a play session and when one of the puppies pooped I went to clean it but Riley (dad's puppy) got to it first. She was running from another puppy and slid right into the pile of poop and face planted herself in the poop. Oh my goodness.

Cricket also got to meet her but didn't want much to do with her and mostly avoided her. They will be fine, but right now Cricket thinks puppy is ewww.

So who wants to see golden puppy pics?

The freaking dog managed to cut up his face. AGAIN. HOW IS THIS HAPPENING.

He's not concerned by it a bit, so it's not a big deal, but I'd like to know what he's cutting it on so I can remove it. He's going have a wicked pink scar on his nose now - even bigger than the one he got last week. The one that just healed.

Is it the top of his nose? Gage did that more then five times, just skinned it right off, it was his kennel. The plastic sides and the door, at least that's where I found the skin

I LOVE having multiple dogs (2+) but dog dynamics inside once you get past two (for me) are so tough. Not BAD, but someone is ALWAYS playing if there are more than two, so I'm constantly being the "bad guy" and sending them or taking them to their spots and training throughout the day, which impedes upon work. I hate crating and rotating, but I do that sometimes just to get some work done!

I don't remember it being this bad in the past... Do you think my small house is why, or just the specific dogs? Each are fine in any combo as long as there are only two. Three and it never stops. Ugh.

Can't wait for a bigger house... I definitely think it will help

I had 7 dogs in the house two years ago and I don't ever remember being this annoyed. 6 of them were over 50lbs!

Haha here ya go :)

Meet little ms Riley. I'm freaking in love with her. My dad is planning on hopefully doing dock diving with her and if she turns out to be appropriate he wants to do therapy dog work with her as well.

Thats too cute, golden puppies are adorable.

I just heard weird chewing noises coming from Riff's direction. I turned around and he somehow got himself twisted up and stuck in my bra. The strap was stuck in his mouth and the "chewing" was him smacking trying to get it out. The rest of it was pulled and twisted around his body.

I am dying. How did he even manage that.
Thats hilarious. The things dogs get into to...

Summer came running into the living room a week or so ago wearing one of my bras. It was hilarious and best I can guess is she rolled on it or something? It had gotten wrapped all around her and she couldn't get it off.

Yep, and his lips and chin.

All I can think is maybe he's playing through the fence with the puppy? There are no other holes and he doesn't go in his crate much. And I got cut up pretty bad yesterday by puppy claws and teeth. That puppy is a cutie, but all five of his extremities end in points.

Amber, you made my morning.

Why is there no such thing as a positive training in home boarding academy for your dog?
I am having some surgery with some stark recovery hospital time. Which is fine... I was planning on having a friend watch Merlin.

But I was thinking it would be so nice to have someone watch him and work on some training with him, like a training academy in someones home.

a nice training lady with an extra crate and love for the clicker who can brush up on some of Merlin's clicker skills and maybe a little heel work? LOL

but it does not appear to exist. womp.

I don't want to send him off to some police horrible dog boot camp (and never will) but would love his training progress to not totally evaporate at the hands of a loving, but clueless, dog sitter lol

Honestly? I think that's my dream in life. To have the space/time to start such a thing and have it become my career. I found someone around me (well, an hour away) who does that and is going to watch Jari when I go on vacation in June (I'M ALREADY PANICKING LEAVING MY BABY) and she charges a ridiculous amount. Since she knows me and knows that Jari isn't an untrained crazy dog, she is only charging me for the boarding part, which cuts out like $200 a day. I COULD MAKE BANK.

Bring him down to Philly. I will watch/train him for you!

My trainer does this for existing clients. She's not 100% positive with every single dog, but she's pretty good ;)

Roxie is trying to kill me. She somehow got out of the mudroom and ate 20-30 of my caramel Lindor chocolates that were sitting on top of the bar. No hydrogen peroxide in the house, neighbors either weren't in or didn't have any. Frantically called the vet, got the on-call vet to come to my house (after they scared the cheese nips out of me about how much my dog ate).

On-call vet gets to my house, gives Rox a shot of puke-juice in the back leg (as Roxie has tiny veins and she could not get it in). Poor dog gifts us with four HUGE piles of chocolate and wrappers, then a few smaller piles of slime.

I cried so much I was hyperventilating. I don't even care. I couldn't handle the thought of her dying or having seizures. I don't know what I'd do without her. I'm still crying just thinking about it. My poor Roxie. I'm so relieved that she's going to be okay.
