Jubel is way too obsessed with eating ice/snow. I swear every couple steps he's reaching down to grab more to eat as we walk. He'll be shivering cold and still scarfing down all the ice/snow he can get his mouth on. Then pees a whole lot all evening long. Hope my brother is having better luck keeping him from doing this on his morning walk as he's currently home alone for about 10-10.5 hours after his morning walk.

Silly dog.

Outlaw started pivoting tonight and perching as well!!!!

He's currently got stepping on the cinder block and taking steps side to side almost down and he's perched three times on a tool box!

I'm a proud mama! He's by far the best trained dog I've ever owned!

Honestly? I think that's my dream in life. To have the space/time to start such a thing and have it become my career. I found someone around me (well, an hour away) who does that and is going to watch Jari when I go on vacation in June (I'M ALREADY PANICKING LEAVING MY BABY) and she charges a ridiculous amount. Since she knows me and knows that Jari isn't an untrained crazy dog, she is only charging me for the boarding part, which cuts out like $200 a day. I COULD MAKE BANK.

Bring him down to Philly. I will watch/train him for you!
Oh you should totally send him to me. I have like six extra crates. And just as many clickers.
My trainer does this for existing clients. She's not 100% positive with every single dog, but she's pretty good ;)
First come, first serve lol I wouldn't even need 100% positive, believe me he hears more than enough NO around here... I just hate that there doesn't even seem to be anything EXCEPT really firm doggy bootcamp crazy training ala shock collar.

I think I'm just going to start working on a plan for getting him back into training after I'm out, he loves his aunties/dog sitters but he comes back like half feral lol they basically let him do whatever he wants and he parties all day with their dogs

somebody should start this business!

I'm SO FREAKING GLAD I have Pet Assure. I've saved $110 with it already, and only have more to go once Logan's allergy test results come back. I got Logan allergy tested, exams on both dogs, T4 and soloxine refill for Gavroche, and it only cost me $335 instead of $460 (the rest of the savings comes from ordering Soloxine online since this vet doesn't carry name-brand and Gavorche doesn't regulate well on generics).

That covers the cost of my UKC entries plus $50 towards the Sunflower Cluster. Woo!

Left Abrams loose in the main part of the house by himself while I finished sleeping after Michael left. And he stayed out of mischief! It was only for three hours...but he didn't even pee! Whoohoo! I may start and see how he does overnight loose.

Also, I have had zero issues with him not being able to hold his bladder since we moved. So apparently it was more or a habit than I realized. He still whizzes once he's out the door before he can get to the grass on occasion, but he's been coming from the garage and out the back door with no problems. Hooray!

So my friend/coworker found a dog downtown 2 days ago and took him to the shelter. It just so turns out that the dog was the breed and gender that she wanted in her next dog (young male GSD). It was a kill shelter so she asked that if his owners never claimed him she wanted to adopt him. Well apparently they can't hold dogs for people? But they will 'try' to let her know if he's about to be put down.

So she's scouring the site constantly to see the second he is placed for adoption. It seems stupid to me they can't hold the dog for her. He has a potential adopter! He should not be in danger of being put down! That is stupid.

They have 302 dogs listed right now. wow.

Here he is: http://www.petharbor.com/detail.asp...='OKCT'&atype=&where=type_DOG,gender_m,size_l

I know. They're EVERYWHERE. And go on craigslist and there's litter after litter. It's so frustrating the lack of caring people have. I was just looking through there and wishing that I was a pit person because there's so many gorgeous and fun looking pits listed but they're just not a good fit for me. I feel bad so many are getting euthanized here.

Go up north 30 minutes to my suburb though and the shelter is very low volume. Just this city one is always overrun.

Is there no way that the city shelter could send some excess animals to the suburb shelter? Or are neither open to that? My local shelter was very high kill until we started sending animals to other, low volume shelters, and it is on the verge of no kill now.

I have no idea if they've looked into it. I honestly haven't been involved in rescue at all since Texas. Just had bad experiences there.

Also, yay yahoo articles.

http://shine.yahoo.com/pets/10-lap-loving-dog-breeds-152700546.html

Originating in 17th century France, the Papillon was bred with the exclusive purpose of being companions dogs for European royalty. A small, delicate dog, Papillons are known for their large, erect ears with hair that grows out rather than down. Intelligent, friendly and affectionate, the Papillon loves to be in the company of its owner and wants nothing but its family's attention. Though Papillons are a calm, laid-back breed, they do require daily exercise and regular grooming, specifically in and around their ears.
They are affectionate but seriously... mine don't enjoy sitting in my lap at all. Nard does though and he is laid back. Mine are broken. Neither of mine are laid back in any sense of the word. Summer is sweet as heck and easy but she's still a very exciteable and barky dog. Oy

Here as well. I think I would loving having a pit type dog, unfortunately their knees scare the crap out of me. After working at a vet's office, I'd take just about anything over putting my dog through orthopedic surgery.

We have mostly Labs or bully breeds in our shelters... And a few Chihuahuas... Otherwise just random terrier/small dog or husky mixes.

Roxie is such a silly dog. I think she was born the wrong size... She is sitting on the arm rest of the couch right now. She's like the collapsible version of a normal medium sized dog, lol.

That's crazy! Why turn down a home for a dog simply because you're too lazy to make a note of it?

The shelter here charges $50 to hold a dog, nonrefundable. If the dog's owner isn't found/isn't adoptable, the money goes towards the adoption fee. If the dog's owner IS found, the shelter keeps the $50.

Yeah, seriously. She asked if they could just put a note on his cage to call her after his stray hold is up (should be tomorrow) but they 'can't hold dogs for people'. And now they're saying he could be put up for adoption starting tomorrow but will likely be a few more days or it could be up to a couple weeks. So basically she just has to keep looking at their website daily to see if he's up for adoption or not.

She's frustrated and upset that the shelter doesn't seem to care if he gets a home or not (when there's one clearly wanting him!).

She even offered to donate to hold him but nope. Can't hold the dog.

We held dogs all the time in Texas. Often we'd have several waiting people.
