You know Laurelin, I love how you do hair.. I have done so much drawing of horses, I suck at all over hair. Any tips?

This thread has inspired me to sketch more. I don't ever draw for fun, and I should. Here's one I did today of Kena; I don't have a scanner, so I have to take photos, so sorry about the poor quality:

I'm not good at spending a lot of time on pictures. I'm too impatient! I think I spent about 15-20 minutes on that one.

Here's a funny one from a few weeks ago.

Those are both great!

I honestly have no idea how I do hair, lol. I just kind of draw and it turns out that way. Lots of layering mainly and blending.

Basically it's all just a bunch of layering until it looks good....

On the cartoon ones I do something like this:

basic color in scribbles the direction I want the hair to go

blend

more touch up with the colors

blend

White highlights added

Add a little more black and blend.

I don't have many other work in progress pictures....

but it basically works the same in pencils. Just do lines in the direction I want to go until it looks decent lol.

Oh, I'm working on a portrait right now, but I can't show until I'm done. :D

But I also started a couple more cartoons just cause.

For my sister....

And no idea. I just drew it then decided it needed to be neon..... I don't even know. Colors are so off on here. *sigh*

Laurelin, here's a weird question for you...
I've noticed that everything you draw faces to the left. Do you find it really weird trying to draw things facing the right? I do. If I need for something to be facing right, I have to draw it facing left and reverse it. I can't draw things facing right. My perception is way off and everything ends up looking super wonky. I've talked to a few people that find this also.

Yeah, I have to force myself to draw things facing right. I can draw that way, I just don't. >.<

It's harder to get the proportions. I think it has something to do with being right handed. The lines going to the left are a lot more natural feeling.

Here's one of those rare right facing pics.

And another

But I did both of those facing right on purpose because I looked at my gallery and noticed they were all facing the same direction. If I just start sketching, it always goes to the left.
