I made my own brushes, Aus, and I do some of the fur detail with the standard hard 1px round brush. I downloaded some "fur" brushes out there on the 'net, but they looked kind of odd and were very difficult to use.

Thanks for the comments! :)

Edited to add what I've done on the BC picture so far:

Beautiful final product!!!! I don't know how you do it. I play around on photoshop all the time (its part of my job), but to do something like that - well - I'm in awe!

Beautiful RD! Do you use any brushes. I must be stupid because I can't figure out how to make them work. Well that and I don't have photoshop, only paint shop pro. But I try to make due.

Here's a quick little rough something:

ETA: Sorry it's so big. The outline was inked without any erasing- I'm trying to get better at just drawing without having to erase and erase and erase. Colored quickly in PSP 9.

Here's the original:

And if you want to see any other of my random stuff and non-dog stuff- http://rabastan.deviantart.com/

And here's my current WIP, though not really a dog... Anthros count lol?

And a detail of a detail I don't know why I'm putting in as you can hardly see it anyways:

It's taking me forever. >.<

And as of now, it's 11 confusing layers.

Hey Laurelin,
Nice work!!!
I'm on deviant art too. I tried to see if I could add your papillion to my favorites, but I can't see the option on your page. :)

**Edit - opps, never mind, the problem was me, you can disregard this - LOL

I love it, Laurelin!

As for brushes... Honestly, I'm not good at using them either. I wind up just using individual strokes most of the time. I don't know a thing about PSP so I don't know if you can make your own brushes in that, but I do make my own in photoshop to give the rough "appearance" of hair before I add the detail. You can download "fur" brushes for photoshop but I never got the hang of them.

I can't draw a dang thing without erasing. It's actually easier for me to get things right in Photoshop because I *can* erase my mistakes without ruining the piece.
