He is absolutely beautiful....what a precious face. I say try to find his owner, and if you can't, keep him. You can work something out with the insurance guy. He looks like a Terrier mix to me for sure!!;) You should have known better then to tell us Gempress....we're as bad as your husband. LOL:D :D

Aww he's so cute. Definitely doesn't look like a pure pit bull so insurance shouldn't be a problem anyway. I love the cat on the picture, lol. Either way, keep us posted... Sorry you have to face this dilemna.

OMG he's precious! ;D It must be fate! He has the cutest little smile, and his speckles are adorable. What a sweetie. I really hope we will be able to see more of this guy, it's sad that he doesn't even have tags or anything.

Hm... yeah, he passes for a Pointer mix!

Gemp, he is beautiful!

I would put up posters and fliers with NO pics. Don't tell people what he looks like, so that if they call you can ask them to describe him. Just say:
Sweet dog found in ____ area. Call (blah blah blah) for information.

Here's an update....

The neighbors across the street are NOT his owners. Nobody in our neighborhood knows where this little dog came from. Our next-door neighbors (the ones whose family raises working border collies) think that he's a catahoula mix. I personally am thinking that perhaps he has some Australian cattle dog in him.

He's staying in the yard for now. He has plenty of food, water, and a doghouse. I'm going to put an ad in the paper tomorrow. I'm just going to say "Found medium sized male dog in ____ area. Call to describe."

Hubby is already making plans to keep him. "Well, we already have a crate and stuff. Our house isn't that big, but he's a just little boy too. And of course we'll have to get him neutered "

So, yeah. It looks like if we can't find his owner, we're probably going to keep him. But I'm still resisting making permanent plans! I want to be sure that his owners aren't out looking for him; I'd feel terrible taking someone else's dog.

EDIT: Drat! Fate is interfering again! About 8 months ago, I ordered a custom-made 2-inch wide leather collar for Zeus. However, it didn't look quite right on his long neck. We just put it on the pup, and it looks magnificent!

OMG hes adorable, but I definately agree that he isn't pure, if at all pitty.
His head and body structure are wrong for a Pit.

Very handsome boy! :) Zues looks like he LOVES him!
In that last pic he looks like hes quite the little dominator with that little mischievious look! lol
Any names picked out yet??

hwhw how about Apollo(god of the Sun) or Aries(got of war), Kronus(father of zues lol), Jamel(means handsome), Neptune(got of the ocean), Saturn(Got of Time), Janus(keeper of heavens gates), Hades(brother to Zues) or Hermes(mythological mischieve maker),

hehe :)

chants "Keep him, keep him, keep him, keep him!"

Hmm. Have you tried calling your local animal shelter to inform them you have a dog, incase the owners come looking at the shelter?

I like the names SummerRiot has given... Hades (brother to Zeus) is a good one, so is Apollo.

Name him soon, that way you wont be able to get rid of him:p

Gem ... have you ever read " My Angels Wear Fur " ...it's about animals that are sent to you. Your collar is a sign . Check with the HS and Animal control. Put your ad in , put up flyers, and check for micro chip. If you hit a dead end, give him a bath, a warm corner near Zeus and " Apollo " will be very happy.

You guys aren't helping!

I'd love to post pics, but I don't have a digital camera. My hubby took a picture of him on his camera phone and tried to email it, but it didn't work. I think I'll go to my parents' house and steal their camera.

We're definately going to make every effort to find his owner. But since he's a pit bull, I'm very hesitant about putting up posters or anything. Too many unscrupulous people try to steal pit bulls, and I don't want some stranger to falsely claim him. :(
I would definatly hold off on the posters. I almost put up posters when I found Babe but then i figured what you figured and just went about trying to find her owners through shelters and vets offices.

I have to agree the pup is so cute.

I'm glad you're making an effort to see if you find the owners since I would be devastated if my dog were lost and no one tried to find me. If you don't find the owners, then I vote he's a keeper too.

All right, an update.

Hubby and I took him to the vet's during lunch. The vet said he's a "beautiful little catahoula." Yay! So we have a breed! Anyways, he's about 7-9 months old. No microchip, although the vet said he really didn't expect to find one, given how underweight this boy is. He's suppossedly going to be a burly little dog when he fills out and matures, although he's probably not going to be any taller.

I checked with the Humane Society, Animal Shelter, and every other rescue group in town. Nothing; nobody's reported him missing. I did leave my info in case anyone called.

I know exactly what you mean, Barb. That's why I'm trying so hard to see if the owners can be found. I know I'd be hysterical if I couldn't find Zeus.

But yup, it definately looks like we're keeping him (if his owners don't claim him, of course). He's already met the cats, and it went beautifully.

It's kind of odd. We walked the pup around the neighborhood yesterday to see if anyone recognized him. Many of the neighbors said they had seen him earlier in the day and made extensive (and exhaustive!) efforts to catch him, but Puppy avoided them. Strange that he ran right up to my husband. Guess perhaps it is fate?
