Ok that looks like it was painful to do, but it's SO pretty. I absolutely LOVE body art.

Back on the topic of piercings though, another one I've considered, but I'm really not sure if I'm actually going to go through with it is nipple piercings (only with a small barbell though, not with a ring). My only major concerns with that one are 1) will you see it through my shirts even with a bra on, 2) will I still be able to breast feed when I have kids and 3) the pain of actually getting it done. That's one I may just wait until after I have kids and finish breast feeding before I consider it and even then I'm not sure if I'll do it.
I have no first hand experience with nipple piercings (unfortunately) but I have spoken to many who have them while doing research. Don't know why, but I prefer the barbell look vs the ring look.

1) I have had women tell me no. One woman told me that she shocked her doctor when she asked for a cup to put the rings in (I think she was getting an MRI or something- no jewelry allowed) because he honestly had no idea.

I have never been able to tell with a guy (even with just a t-shirt). And I like to think I do a thorough once-over, haha.

2) Only one of the women I've spoken to had kids, and she said she breastfed just fine. It's something to talk to others and your piercer about though.

3) I hear the first is easy, but if you want both done ask your piercer to do the second quickly, while your endorphins are flying high. I think Psychology today did an article about people with painful reactions to vaccines, and found that looking at your arm that isn't getting pricked helped many get over the pain. Why? Supposedly if you see a fine arm, you will get over the pain sooner because the sensation of pain is linked to the look of something that is okay. Since you are looking at your arm, and not, say, a poster, you think "My arm hurts but I know it's okay because I saw that it was okay". Or something like that.

I suppose with nipple piercings, looking at your shoulder or other skin could be helpful, :)

I've read a few different articles about breastfeeding with nipple piercings that were fine, but I've still been unsure about that. Do you know if she breastfed with the jewelry in or did she take it out every time she fed? I keep reading articles that say it's ok to breastfeed with the barbell jewelry in, but my concern would be the ball coming off the bar while the baby is sucking and the baby choking. It's a reasonable concern I'd imagine, lol. I guess if I did pierce it before I could just take the jewelry out when I feed and make sure the jewelry is always cleaned before it goes back in. I don't know yet lol.

I think chances are I'd do a dermal surface anchor piercing before I'd do the nipple piercing, but still they fascinate me. It's funny because I always told myself there's no way I'd ever pierce my nipples but now I'm actually intrigued by them.

Does anyone know about sensation with them though? How high is the risk of losing sensation?

Oh and my most painful piercing was my nostril. My tongue didn't hurt at all. I was terrified about doing my septum because I thought that one was going to hurt like bloody hell, but the guy did it so fast and did such a great job that I barely felt it at all.

I plan on doing three up on the top side of my wrist running up my arm (probably on both sides, I lke symmetry in my piercings these days) one in between my collar bones and if I eventually get my cheeks done like i want I would consider getting one or two in the middle of my forhead to balance my face out.

Nape of neck migh tbe another choice? But probably pretty easy to snag on stuff, espeically when you go to the hairdresser.

I have both of my nipples pierced and instead of dulling the sensation, it has made them MORE sensitive. Which is good, since they were not very sensitive to begin with. Having them pierced didn't hurt very much, the cartilage in my ears was way worse. (and I got them done in the winter, in the midwest while I was PMSing. ;) ) As far as them showing through a shirt, most of my bras are slightly padded anyways because I hate nipping out through my shirts in the first place.

When you get yours done you totally have to take photos. I just remembered one of my friends in New Mexico has her cheeks done. They actually look really cool.

See more sensitive would totally rock because mine currently aren't all that sensitive either. I may hint to my hubby about the idea and see if that's a kind of piercing he digs or not. I've noticed with guys it tends to fall more around the 50/50 range as to whether they find that piercing sexy or not. I tend to wear bras that are slightly padded too as it is for the same reason you do. If I did it I would just want a barbell and at the smallest gauge they can pierce it with which I think is a 14G for that piercing. My body doesn't tend to reject piercings really so I'm definitely not worried about the piercings working themselves out if I do end up doing it.

Dangit... when I got my septum done I told myself I was pretty sure I was done with my piercings. Of course, I said that after I got my lip done too which was prior to my septum piercing. And now I already want more. I'm the same way with tattoos too. I have 5 tattoos right now and I definitely want more.

Had my nipple done when I was younger.

Yes you can see them through clothing and worse over once removed your nipples are rarely *relaxed*, aka invest in padded bras and don't expect to go braless without attention.

Yes you can breast feed.

I have a high pain tolerance so I am a bad judge.

I'd love to do it soonm, but I need to find a job where it's allowed though and they scar pretty bad so it would have to be something pretty reliable so I can keep them. Until then, I've got some stuff want on my ears and under my clothes, plus am hanging to get some tattoos.

I love the look of dermals....I'm pretty sure I'd rip one out though. I'm still agonizing over if/when I'm going to get my septum done. The idea of having to flip it up for 40 hours a week annoys me.

My sister got hers done a couple years ago. She took them out after about 6 months cause they weren't healing properly and she was sick of messing with them.

1) Not if you wear padded bras. I know Megan wears fairly padded bras but I think lightly padded would work fine.
2) Um, I dunno. Lol.
3) I went with Megan to get hers done and....it looked like it hurt. Her entire body jerked off the table with the first one and I think she was in shock with the second one. She is the biggest weenie I've ever met though, so you'd probably do a lot better. LOL

I'd be scared about breastfeeding for the same reason skittle... i'd be scared the jewelry would come loose and the baby would choke on it.

Babies don't feed by sucking with their lips like drinking through a straw. The entire nipple and areola goes in the baby's mouth and is pressed up (rather hard) against the baby's palate and tongue, and the tongue creates suction by moving up and down. So not only is there the worry of the jewelry coming off, but I can't imagine that would be good for a baby to have a hard piece of metal banging and rubbing on the palate and tongue with every suck.

I'm just thinking about the amount of "suction" they create while sucking on the areola. And with new babies.... they don't often get a proper latch in the beginning, so i could possibly see where they could literally cause the nipple ring to pull away from the piercing hole. I know our lactation consultant would recommend taking the jewelry out while breastfeeding, but i'm sure there are people who are successful with leaving it in.

I'm saying that I might have a problem with my surgeon having one, I'm saying that I might have an issue with my dentist having one, I'm also saying that if it were my lab or farm you might not be able to work for me with one.

I have zero problems with tats, earrings, etc. I just can't see a stud like that not being an infection waiting to happen.
perhaps you should be more educated about them before you say you would have issues with them. I know people with them who have no issues, around animals, farms, working outside.... I know a few lab workers who have them, never been an issue.

I have to say I can't understand why it would matter to you one iota if your dentist had one. Any more than I can understand why it would matter if your dentist had blue eyes, its not like it affects their work in anyway. (of course it is your right to not want a dentist with them, or with blue eyes work on you)

I think there is a "stigma" with piercings and tattoos in the professional world. I'm not saying it's right, but I've seen it time and time again in the medical profession. I really want a tattoo on the back of my neck, but i've been told i will have to cover it whenever i'm at work. So, i guess that means I won't be getting one :( Heck, we're not even allowed to have a strand of pink hair...lol I remember a girl had a few strands of pink put in her hair and a big memo went out at work that next day saying it was not "professional" looking and would not be allowed.

I only use dentists with brown eyes.

I think that the surface anchor piercings are really pretty. I'd be so afraid I'd snag them on EVERTHING though. My hair gets snagged in clothing as it is... I'd be ripping those things out constantly.

I have microdermals. I've shared them here before and gotten nasty and ignorant comments from chazzers. Not questions, just the eww gross omg omg horrible comments.

I had a pair in my back, I've rejected one of them twice. No infection, no grossness as some of the comments even here would imply, jut pushed out after a snowpants snag the first time and it was sitting unevenly the second time and it rejected due to that.

I wouldn't get one on your face. Having lip piercings and a septum is enough reasons for it to make it hard to get a job. Not necessarily fair, but that's life.
You might be surprised at how many people do lead gainfully employed lives with body modifications. Not everyone is so shallow to think that jewellery placement implies incompetence. 13 piercings including facials ones, 3 microdermals and the City of Toronto employs me. Glad all the parents and other clientele at my ski hill are more open minded.

I'm not removing the majority when I become a paramedic. So when you call 911 and get someone with piercings or dermals are you going to say no? How are you even going to know about my microdermals.. most people don't notice them unless they are pointed out.

I think that's another thing about them.. they usually don't end up sitting flat on the skin and will rise a bit. They will tilt, or just reject. They're hard piercings but easier than using a surface bar. Most shops will cut them out of you too, even though there are other methods.
I've been a member of bmezine since I was 16. I've know tons of people who have gotten microdermals. Well done ones, by experienced people don't have a tendency to be wonky. Mistakes can happen, usually they end up never sitting happily and get rejected in the long run. The three I have are very much straight, with my body and not tilting. One of my nape pair rejected in a month due to not being perfectly flat and was redone in april at cost. If they are tilting, they aren't comfortable.

Placement is up to the individual. I've seen a good number of rejected facial ones but I've seen ones that stayed happily too.. Wrist I'd worry about snagging regularly. Other than a snowpants issue I don't catch the one on my lower back, and my hair rarely causes my nape an issue.

Nape microdermals

Lower back pair, left one was unhappy and rejected soon after as it was tilted from the time it was biopsy punched. Scar in the middle is from a surface bar that didn't work out.

they look like they hurt getting them put in. I can only imagine how much it must hurt if u snag them on something and rip them out. I really liked the photo of the one with the flowered tattoo with the dermals incorporated into it. I personally would never get them because i'm a wimp and because i already don't like my body... so i wouldn't want to do something to draw attention to it..lol

It's the same reason I don't use nurses or doctors with fake nails. Risk. That's fine if you're ok with it. It has nothing to do with eye color and everything to do with the spread of infection both to the person and others. It has nothing to do with preference and everything to do with workman's comp on why you probably would not be able to work for me with one.

Show me how there is ANY increased risk of infection. I don't get it. Fake nails make a bit more sense, but not much. If it was the press on kind I could see being worried about one dropping off in a procedure. If not there is no risk of infection. Its interesting that you mention infection, anything to back it up?
