also known as a dermal piercing...

I've talked about doing one of these piercings for a few years now. My friend Alyssa in Virginia has a couple and she's the one that originally got me interested in them. I don't plan to do one right now obviously because financially it's not a priority right now, but eventually I'd like to do one.

The question is where should I put one? I don't want it to be somewhere where it's going to be snagged all the time. My friend Alyssa has hers in the dimples of her lower back and hers are constantly getting snagged. I thought about maybe doing it in the outside corner of one of my eyes, but I'm still debating on the placement. I do have quite a few facial piercings as it is. My current piercings aside from my ears are tongue, lip (side), nostril and septum.

One idea is when I eventually get my chest tattoo work done, I can incorporate a couple anchor piercings into the tattoo work kind of like what you see here:

Here's the face placement I've considered

Does anyone on here have any of these? What was your experience like? Where are some good places to put them where you have a lesser risk of them getting snagged?

I should also mention that when I eventually do get this piercing done (if I for sure end up doing it) I will be doing a TON of research since there are a lot of piercers that claim they can do this piercing, but don't really do it the right way. If it's done the wrong way I've heard some horror stories.

The one by the eye, it looks like your hair would snag on it.

Other than that idk, but the tat w/the piercings is really cool!

My brother's girlfriend has two on her chest a few inches below her collar bone. My always tactful MIL  was quizzing her on them one day and the girlfriend said that she doesn't notice them anymore.

I must live under a rock, 'cause I've never seen those - very pretty. Or maybe I have seen them and figured they were stick ons :)

How are they anchored? Can you take them in and out like an earring or other piercing?

The only one I've seen was on a girl's arm, top part above the wrist. Looked nice, but having something under my skin would cause me to constantly pick on it. The picture of the one by the eye was either done not long before the picutre or looks infected, it's all red.

They passed these as illegal in Las Vegas (to be done) 6 months ago but plan to allow certain licensees in the next 4 months or so for them (to be done) according to my last tattoo artist.

I've always liked them, I'd get some but the price and the desire don't match up.

ETA: Placement... do you plan to get a job with the piercing?

I have a monroe and a tragus, I removed my eyebrow, labret and nose all shortly after I got them.

Since I have had these (just the two) I have had a few jobs. One job I had to fight with about my ability to have them. When I was unemployed I looked into Petsmart, at this corp (like many) you cannot have facial piercing. My current job doesn't care but eventually as a teacher, going to school for this, I will likely need to remove them.

Something to keep in mind with facial modifications, like it or not they do effect your credibility and job opportunities.

Some (the kind that are still legal with a proper permit) have a long flat bar that goes in one hole and comes out the other hole with 90 degree bents, the tip of these bends are where the gems go. The down fall of this method is they can only appear in pairs.

They cannot be removed like earrings.

The other method is this :About Surface Anchors

You can change the tops

I wouldn't get one on your face. Having lip piercings and a septum is enough reasons for it to make it hard to get a job. Not necessarily fair, but that's life. I've always wanted a dermal anchor personally. I think it looks really good on collarbones or in the cleavage. My piercer used to have an anchor below her navel and it really complimented her navel piercing. It had to be removed though because it rejected. I think like Adrianne, the price and my desire to get one doesn't match up. They're at least $100+ here.

I think that's another thing about them.. they usually don't end up sitting flat on the skin and will rise a bit. They will tilt, or just reject. They're hard piercings but easier than using a surface bar. Most shops will cut them out of you too, even though there are other methods.

Maybe I'm jaded, even though I didn't really go far into body modification. I had my tongue, lip, labret, both of my nostrils, and my ears are stretched to 0. I got rid of the first three. All when I started looking for jobs. I mean, my current job now.. wouldn't of cared. We even have a girl with cheek piercings, stretched ears and a septum. I'd just make sure your anchor can be hidden easily, most jobs factor piercings into their hiring decision.

Yeah, the way I keloid, like many fashion trends this will be one I'll have to admire on others rather than participate in :)

Can I ask you, do all/most of your wounds keloid? Like is it a question of where the would is, how big it is, how deep it is?

I was just thinking because in scarification, some people want their scars to keloid so they irritate it in various ways. I know some people are more prone to keloiding, like you, but I was wondering what are the factors that determine if an injury on you is going to keloid.

It's a shame, male friend of mine got both ears pierced, both keloided.

Beautiful keloid-scarification.

I think it has to do with genetics more than anything. I am of mediterranean descent on one half of my family tree, and IME people with similar coloring or darker tend to keloid much more than fairer people.

As to location, tends to be back, shoulders, upper arms, but my c-section scar has a big keloid right in the middle of it. I smashed the bridge of my nose a few years ago, cut down to the bone, needed stitches and that scar is barely even visible, and I used the same olive oil ointment on both the c-section and nose cuts, so who knows... Also I keloid more now than when I was younger. My ears are pierced and zero problems there.

I can't say I'd get one and I'm not sure that in certain fields I'd be ok with employees having them with me as the client or the employer.

My main concern would be infection spreading.

What about if it's not on the face, but say, the arm and the employee rolls up his sleeves because it's hot or whatever?

I'm saying that I might have a problem with my surgeon having one, I'm saying that I might have an issue with my dentist having one, I'm also saying that if it were my lab or farm you might not be able to work for me with one.

I have zero problems with tats, earrings, etc. I just can't see a stud like that not being an infection waiting to happen.

Okay, I thought because Skittledoo was considering getting one by her eye that you were objecting to the face one.

What if the employee tells you that it's a couple years old (and so it's obvious that it is healed and that the body isn't going to reject it). Would that be okay? Or are you concerned that it could get infected even after healing time?

I don't know much about these piercings and am curious if they are at a higher risk of becoming infected even after healing time. I haven't had the opportunity to examine one, but I thought the body tended to heal around it and that it wasn't more risk prone than other surface piercings. Since I don't know though, I'm interested if anyone else does.

Does chaz not have a tattoo or piercing artist? I think we should get one! Haha.

Ok that looks like it was painful to do, but it's SO pretty. I absolutely LOVE body art.

As for the piercing. I definitely still want it. As far as jobs are concerned, yes it would be near impossible to hide on my face unless they have clear balls you can screw onto them since the ball, gem, etc can be interchanged. My septum I usually flip up into my nose and the others I usually put clear jewelry in even though clear plastic jewelry actually irritates my piercings. Of my tattoos three are harder to hide. One on my neck and two on my wrists. I may have to work for an employer for a little bit, but I don't do well working for people at all and eventually I'm going to be running my own business and when we have kids I'm going to mostly be doing the stay at home mom thing and work from home for a little income.

Office jobs are definitely NOT my thing in the least. The idea of having to dress up some and present myself in a super professional manner actually makes me cringe lol. I had to do so at a former job and they eventually told me I didn't fit in with the crowd at the company which was fine by me.

I definitely think that even if I did a small one near my eye like in that photo then as long as all my other piercings can be hidden for a job some jobs would overlook that piercing. They're generally really small and it just looks like a tiny gem. I definitely think though that it would vary job to job and I know there are jobs I wouldn't be able to get specifically because of the piercing. At the same time, they're becoming increasingly more and more popular as are tattoos and I've noticed more and more employers (especially more in fields I'm interested in) relaxing a bit on tattoos and piercings provided they aren't over the top. A piercing or two is usually ok as long as it's not extreme. My septum is one I'd probably more than likely have to keep hidden and that's as simple as just flipping it up into my nose. For some reason my septum piercing is the one people tend to take offense to which I don't get but whatever.

People don't normally notice I have my tongue pierced. One of my former employers didn't notice I had my tongue pierced until I had been there close to 6 months. They saw me every single day and talked to me a ton and still hadn't noticed it for so long.

Oh and the fact that I'm getting my whole chest tattooed... I'd practically have to wear a turtle neck every day if I wanted to work at an office job or another place that doesn't allow tattoos. That tattoo is one my cousin is going to do for me and I'd like him to do it while he's still tattooing. I want him to do that one because it holds a LOT of meaning for me especially concerning my past and my tattoo artist cousin has always been there for me when I needed him and when I was going through tough times in that past.

Back on the topic of piercings though, another one I've considered, but I'm really not sure if I'm actually going to go through with it is nipple piercings (only with a small barbell though, not with a ring). My only major concerns with that one are 1) will you see it through my shirts even with a bra on, 2) will I still be able to breast feed when I have kids and 3) the pain of actually getting it done. That's one I may just wait until after I have kids and finish breast feeding before I consider it and even then I'm not sure if I'll do it.
