Lucy had her puppies last night. She had 10 but we lost 1. Lucy and the surviving 9 puppies seem to be doing great. All this excitement just 3 weeks after taking her in as she showed up in my yard with the large male mix breed...

Okay, I have an appointment at my vet on Friday to have them all checked and to learn what I need to do. I've never dealt with puppies like this before, so I can use all the advice I can. The local animal shelter is also helping me out with info and will also help me find homes for the pups.

I know her bedding looks dirty, but that's just the cedar shavings, it's really cleaner than it looks in the pic.....

Looks like at least three of the puppies are "dad's" coloring.

Now.. you know you're going to be required to post more pics, right? Oh, and how did birth go? Other than the tenth puppy :)() did she have a hard time/complications?

She had the pups sometime last night while I was asleep. All I can do is assume everything went good. I really don't know if the 10th pup was still born or if the Mom accidently laid on him and he was smothered....I know that's a common thing.

Congratulations on the puppies, I think. You are a great Dad.
Yeah, I never planned to have puppies....I just took in the stray Beagle that happened to be pregnant. Didn't have the heart to send her to a shelter.

Lovely pups !!! Must say I'd take them off of the shavings though , and just have blankets and quilts you can wash . Also I highly recommend " How To Raise A Puppy You Can Live With " Rutherford and Neil ,for new breeders ....Your next 8 weeks are the most important in their lives. Good luck !!

Awwww. The puppies are adorable and mom is gorgeous. She has such sweet eyes. She looks tired, though, of course. I'm so sorry about the last puppy but I'm so glad the rest are doing well. As you can see we'd love more pics if you can post them. :)

However- I was thinking about how the pups will do with the shavings? Can't they ingest them? Like Grammy said I would put some blankets and stuff that can be easily removed and washed and feel more comfortable with. :)

Thanks for the advice about the shavings....I'll be sure to get all of that out of the dog house today....I had put down a thin layer of the shavings and covered them with the old comforter, but some of it made it's way on top of it...

Lucy is a great mother....she only leaves them long enough to go out and relieve herself. I took some more pics last night, will post them in a few. When I picked up the first pup and layed him on the comforter in front of her to take a pic, he started to whine a bit and she started to get up to come to the pup, which was only about 2 feet from her...so I went ahead and put the pup back with the rest...got some pics after that though..
