Melanie and Sinnik (gasp!) I agree with you.

Why is it when something comes up that shows abuse, people start madly generalizing entire groups of people. There are people who skin animals alive in China for their fur, and when this is mentioned I always see something said about "chinese culture". If a soldier abuses a dog, then the military is in a shameful, sorry state. If a cop shoots a dog, all cops are trigger-happy psychos.

I know it's human nature to generalize and judge, but I wish for once that more people would see things like this as the actions of an individual and not that of a group, culture or occupation.
I strongely agree with you!!!!!

My goodness! Yes, that video is horrible and something should be done about it...

But there is no need to slaughter the military like this! I even checked out the youtube from the Soldiers with the water bottle and the kids. Hmmm...guess what video popped up right afterwards? One of a soldier playing soccer with Iraqi kids. Does anybody ever care to mention that? No.

And to say that my husband is no better than the ones he is fighting against...well, aren't generalizations fun!

I'm sorry... like I said before, the video is horrible and something should be done about it, but 90% of the comments regarding ALL military members is insulting and ridiculous. So one irresponsible pit owner makes all pit owners bad? I thought we were against this kind of thinking here. Apparently I am wrong.

I chose not to watch the dog torture video because it would traumatize me. I hate the fact that a handful of idiot soldiers are tarnishing the reputation of the many other soldiers who are heroic, caring and determined to make this world a better place to live.

I agree that you can't generalize all the soldiers alike. The percentage of upstanding soldiers far out weighs the ones that in my opinion have represented themselves as idiots.

They should be ashamed of themselves. And I really hope they get the punishment they deserve. I hope enough people flood the white house and anyone else in the political arena that will listen with their disgust of these matters. MAYBE they'll get so much feedback about it that they will be forced into addressing the issue and finding those involved and punishing them severely for their actions. They need to know that this kind of behavior will not be tolerated.

For the rest of the other soldiers who are serving in the military because they want to make a difference in this world and take their job seriously... kudos to you. I applaud you for what you stand for. And come home safely to your family and friends!

After I sent my email of disgust to the white house, I emailed everyone in my address book about this. I even supplied the links to the videos as well as the senate and white house to make it even easier for them to send in their comments. I told them to forward it to anyone and everyone they knew as well.

Yes, making general statements about the whole military is rediculous! I have seen men do horrific things....................I don't assume that all men are bad. I have seen cops do horrific things...............they are not all bad. There are really bad pet owners, it causes problems for us all because others generalize us all in with them.
Sadly when the media gets this, if they choose to pay attention to it at all, it will cause heartache and grief for all the military & their families. The guilty parties will probably love the idea of having their 15 minutes, and nothing will happen to them anyway.
As for the white house & senators................well don't expect them to respond with more than a "form letter" unless the media blows it up.

True, you cannot generalize. There are good and bad in all sorts of people.

BUT, these soldiers are supposed to be representing America. Their conduct, in a foreign country, should be above the average citizen.

Maybe those who reason out the fact that not all people are good will realize this, but sadly ALOT of people do generalize. So, in the end it really does make the US military look bad.

Realy, care to explain why you would think that? Other than the biased reporting what makes you think the news orginizations*edit on* you emailed *edit off* care either?.

I went through and emailed the various Fox shows, especially the dog owners. I also sent an Email to Laura Ingrham another dog owner.
Fox news is not going to do anything that would cast a bad light on Bubyas war. They never have and never will.....

put your cross down Bob, just because you were in the service doesn't mean that you somehow played a supplementary role in any of this. out of the thousands of American Dads, Mothers, Brothers, and Sisters risking their very lives in Iraq, you and chinchow want to condemn all of them because you see a couple of punks abusing a dog. sad as it is, i think people need to reign their anger in a little.

it'd take a lot more than that to make me ashamed of MY service.
Nobody is condemning all the military people, certainly not me. However, there seems to be a certain small element in today's military that seems to get a kick out of torturing people and now animals and I think that these people should go to jail for a long time . Knowing what the military is like, from the inside, however, this will probably be covered up as was Abu Ghraib at first , unless people start really complaining to the media and their government officials about it.

I don't think it is just a small group in "today's military" There is just more ways to capture it, document it, or spread the word "today"
There have always been jerks in any group, I don't care if you go back a hundred years or more!

I don't ever remember the guys I served with bragging about the way they could torture an animal or people, if that is what you mean.....

And frankly I am a bit surprised that people have taken the time to take me to task for getting really angry with this situation, instead of focusing on ways to get the people that did this to pay for their crimes. Oh well, I guess we all have different priorities....

Please don't misunderstand my post, I am not angry with you in the least. I was sickened by the whole thing, and couldn't even think to post at all.
I think trying to get these people punished is wonderful...............I just think sadly that the military as a group will suffer for the actions of a few.
And if it felt like an attack on you, that was not the intention on my part. I just know too well that their have been "bad guys" in the military going way back..........................according to tales from my grandpa & uncles & father in law too.

Well...guess not... there's not a guy my husband serves with nowadays that brags about torturing and animal or a person... there's always the bad apple and it has always been like that. Only today the media focuses on it. You will rarely see anything extraordinary good come from news involving the military. I know a Marine who found a sick little puppy and kept it around his can. He fought hard to bring it to the States, but was denied. He and his wife were crying about that decision. So don't tell me that it is not surprising that military members torture animals!

I dearly hope that someone will identify the soldiers and it will go up their chain of command. What bugs me is that you said you are ashamed to say that you were ever in the service because of this. If you served around Vietnam you should know how crushing it is to go to war, come home and have fingers pointed at you
With all due to respect, my husband is a good Marine and he would never do anything like this and never would anyone from his unit. So don't dare to generalize this event! And you can be da-mn right that it is my priority to support my husband!

I was not trying to put down all the service people today, just the dirt bags that do stuff like this. I wrote that last night and was really PO's after seeing the videos and probably used a poor choice of words.. I do think that the people that pull stuff like this, and raping a 14 year old girl and killing her family, and some of the other things that have happened in Iraq, should be put in jail to rot....

Where did I EVER say condemn them all? Don't twist my words. I have respect for those who serve, but I have NO respect for ANYONE who abuses an animal. AT ALL. I don't care WHERE they are, WHO they are, or what kind of uniform they are wearing.

When you look at those videos and think that soldiers are bad, just remember the one that brought over a dog from Iraq (and went through a lot to do it, too). There was an article on it in Reader's Digest like last month or the month before.

Great post! And tell your husband "thank you" from me & my family!

Of course their are going to be a few bad seeds in the military. Hell, there are hundreds of thousands more just in your everyday community. But to condemn the military & shun the troops based one what a handful of idiots are doing truly disgusts me. I'm so sick & tired of people badmouthing the troops & turning their backs on them when THEY are the reason one can sit as his/her computer & say all that crap in the first place. Regardless of your feelings on war, war is what founded this country & war is what will keep it going & together. If you don't like it, move to Iraq, heck any middle eastern country, & see how much you are liked over there & see if you get all the freedoms over there that you do here.

Please don't make a boogeyman of "the media" over this. "The media" did not record these videos and put them on the internet. THE SOLDIERS IN THE VIDEOS recorded and uploaded them. "The media" did not go to people and say, "Hey, you should be upset over this!" These images haven't been on any news program. Oddly, after seeing soldiers (including a SERGEANT) taunting kids/dogs, people got upset all by themselves.

Naturally not all soldiers are like the ones in the videos. Most soldiers are good people.
