I will check with her. BTW dog food does make a difference. I ran out yesterday and it was to late to drive 2o miles to get innova so I ran to the local store and grabbed puppy chow. Omg, Brutus was bouncing off the walls, he also kept looking and barking at his empty bag of Innova. And he was bouncing again this morning. Hyper, hyper, I am leaving in a couple of hours to get his food. Cannot believe the difference in his behavour, and I cannot spell this morning. need more coffee.
Keep some raw foods in the freezer, it will save your sanity, lol! When my Mom kept Kharma and Bimmer, Kharma ran over to Mom's little Rattie's dish and snatched a mouthful of food, then spit it back out - right back into the dish, then walked over and bumped the Innova bag I'd brought over with her snoot! She wasn't going to eat that garbage, lol. Now, if I could only get my Dad to quit buying the stuff . . .

Oh, and Kharma won't eat McDonald's food either :D

The breeder where Im getting my Fila agrees with everything that I found from Mordy but directly conflicts with much vet advice. He said that the old school vets seem to be better dog nutitionists than the ones that are fresh into the field. He said that he thinks they put too much into their own beliefs of where they think their own food should come from and not consistent with what wild dogs eat. Meat, bones and stomach contents (fruits, vegetables and digestive fluids etc). I dont know how you feel about feeding human grade chicken and beef but I am finding that it really isnt going to be as expensive as I thought. If you get the meat a day or two passed the date on the package its very cheap.
The biggest problem I've seen with the new vets' nutritional agenda is that they've learned the majority of it in seminars sponsored by the large manufacturers . . .

I think at Brutus' next appt. I am going to take a copy of the Greatdane lady's
website address. I think they should at least take the time to check it out. Especially the orthopedic doctor. I actually did find one website where it said you should not give a fila vitamin C as it can eventually cause liver and kidney problems, he also said this for rotties and Shiz zus. The only one I have seen against it. Now I can't find it. Brutus isn't feeling great today, I think it is the antibiotic. He never shows it but I can see it in his face. I did give him a big tablespoon of yogurt. Should I bump it up a little more since on antibiotics? Plus he his probably feeling the effects of the rabies shot. Poor Baby. Just isn't playing a lot. But has peeing up a storm, have to take him out constantly. I did look up the antibiotic said all of the side effects. Heavy peeing wasn't one. But, the side effects could be worse. Keeping an eye on him the next few days.

About the vitamin C. Any unsed C is simply dumped from the system. It is NOT stored in the body. Oh.......and today on the news they had a segment about Yellow and other bright colored fruits being good for diabetics....BECAUSE VITAMIN C IS AN ANTIOXIDENT AND HELPS KILL THE THINGS IN OUR SYSTEM THAT RESIST THE INSULIN!!!

That is OLD news about C being an antioxident to those of us who are informed on the subject---just about 50 years late, rofl.

Collagen is vital to the body. Vitamin C is vital to the formation of collagen. Check it out.......also look up Linus Pauling and read some of the things he discovered about vitamin C.

maybe the last time the orthopedic vet read any articles on vitamin c was 10 years ago. I believe in it. I take it everyday because it it water soluable and helps keep me from getting bladder infections. Used to get them a lot. Well I am going to take in the dog food info. I look at it like this. As much money as I have spent there thru the years I should now be a full partner in the vet firm. They can at least give me the courtesy of looking it up since they have not offered me the partnership. lol I know have paid for some very nice vacations. Just on my danes bill alone.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C
Hydroxyproline, which is critical for collagen stability, is created by modifying normal proline amino acids after the collagen chain is built. The reaction requires vitamin C to assist in the addition of oxygen. Unfortunately, we cannot make vitamin C within our bodies, and if we don't get enough in our diet, the results can be disastrous. Vitamin C deficiency slows the production of hydroxyproline and stops the construction of new collagen, ultimately causing scurvy. The symptoms of scurvy--loss of teeth and easy bruising-- are caused by the lack of collagen to repair the wear-and-tear caused by everyday activities. http://www.rcsb.org/pdb/molecules/pdb4_1.html

Thanks manchester. I knew it was a necessary pill, and vitamin. and I will keep giving it to the dogs. Got to take care of those new growing bones, and the old bones. Including mine.

I gave him two tablespoons but will just dump in some today. He loves it anyway. And of course Roxie and Maggie get theirs also. BTW Brutus has now taken it upon himself to let me know if he is not getting fed on time. He started barking at me this morning and then grabbed my robe and started pulling me. I had no choice but to move. He pulled me thru the house and in front of his bowl. Let go, sat down and barked at me. God forbid I would be 10 minutes late on his chow time. lol Shameful mom. He is obviously feeling a little better today. Getting his cocky little walk and attitude back.

It's cute now, but wait until he's full grown and starts that  They take to being spoiled rotten very, very quickly, lol!

One more thing to add to your good list - talk to 'em, and not just when you want them to do something. Just in conversation. It sounds crazy, but it makes a difference.

hey buckshot, one more thing

Forgot about: When I said Brutus was eating dog cookies at the vet, I failed to mention. He will not take the cookies from the vet or assistants. I have to give them to him. He did finally accept one from the vet(she's a woman) but he still spit it out. I picked it up, gave it to him and he ate it. I also have to tell him it is ok to go into the room. There was a new vet asst. (male) he did not know, He did not bark or growl, but his tail did start going up and refused to move. Told him it was ok. He then moved. However he did keep an eye on this guy. But, maybe there was too much testosterone in the room. (Competition) hehehe

You may go thru the same things, I am seeing a lot more changes in him since he has turned 3 months.

Oh, and the robe thing this morning I am convinced he cussed me in fila language for giving him his breakfast late. I told him I did not appreciate the tone in his voice, And he better not cuss me again until I could take a fila language course. I am sure he learned these words from Keith. Potty mouth
