WARNING: this link contains graphic photos. I am in no way posting this, because I think pit bulls are bad. It is just some thing I ran into and I would like to share it with you. In my opinion, the information at the bottom of the page is very true. (Url Edited Out)

well it is very true that most people can not tell pitbulls from different breeds of dogs. That is terrible that had happened but I doubt the dog just up and decided to attack her for no reason whatsoever (although I could be wrong). It was probably something genetic or maybe it was hurting in some way she did not realize.

Julie, I would say you are completely right. The reason why people cant distinguish a pit bull from another breed is because it is allmost imposible. Pit breeders do not stick to one standard. Some pits are 40 pounds while others are over 100 pounds. Some are short, some are tall, some have extremely wide chests, and some have narrow chests.

I don't think links to that site are appropiate, there are other links on that page that also are not. This thread brings me back to the question I asked of you in your debarking and declawing thread, which you didn't respond to. Maybe you didn't see it?

Boxermom why is it not appropriate? I was told that if it contains graphic images then you can post a warning, which I did. People have complete control whether or not to veiw the link.

I'm not sure why you are posting this? There is already more than enough propaganda out there about pit bulls. And this is VERY graphic.

I agree... nothing against you, Rottie, but the link may be bias . A couple of days ago, a boy here in Indy got off the school bus and was attacked by 2 dogs... the bus driver went to help him and was attacked by a 3rd dog... the boy's dog. The news called them pit bulls, but they looked more lke regular bull dogs to me. I personally feel that the 3rd dog was trying to protect his young master. So far I haven't heard of the fate of the dogs... I hope they are openned minded for the 3rd dog. Each dog is different...each case is different. Still, it goes back to owners not the breed .

Not only is the site biased but the statistics don't sound right. I mean, where do they get those numbers from? How did they do their study? Were they open minded when they gathered their info? You have to ask yourself those things when you see 'statistics.'

this thread is called "news and articles" and that is why I posted it. There are other people who post things that are in the news, do you just not like it because its about a pit? There is more information at the end of the page that explains why there are alot of pit attacks. I dont think this post puts pits in more of a bad light than they already are, plus it has good information. It is ok to post an article about a different breed attack, but not a pit attack? I dont get that.

I didn't say you COULDN'T post it I was just wondering about WHY you would post it. There is a difference. Most people post things because they want to spread some kind of knowledge. Is that what you are doing?

Also, that is neither news nor an article. It's something that is posted for shock value. That's why it's being questioned.

I understand where you guys are coming from, but the link posted where they got the stats from, and its up to the viewer to beleive them or not. The site also states that pit bulls attacks might be overstated and why. You guys are pretty much restating the information that is already posted in the link.

Well if that's the arguement, the whole link restates things that have already been posted on this forum.

just because it was posted for "shock value" does not change the fact that it happened. I understand that ogrish may not be a reliable news source, but I do not expect you to beleive the stats at all, that is your choice.

I have never seen photos of an attack on this forum, so I dont beleive it restates any thing. I posted it because people might be interested in taking a look at the photos. That is all.

How do you know it happened? How do you know it was a pit bull or even a dog?

once again, I do not expect people to beleive what actually happened. I personally think that ogrish posted what actually happened, because they also say that pit attacks can be over stated, plus the owner probably knows the breed of her own dog. that is only my opinion

I have seen pit attacks and they look very similar. I would say that the photos are accurate about what the aftermath of a pit attack looks like
