We had a little mutt dog (Smokey) when I was growing up that got bit by a Copperhead and didn't survive the bite.

Glad Chloe didn't get bit.....

Thanks :) I am so sorry to hear that about Smokey:( .... If anybody else wants to say something about us killing it well there is your reason............

Thanks. That was about 25 years ago when that happened....

Hey, I kill poisonous snakes also, so I'm on your side with that. Gotta protect our pets...

Look, I don't appreciate your sarcasm.

There is no "REASON" to kill a living thing. No REASON at all.

Relocation is the only answer to not wanting an animal on your property. I HATE the freaking cats that roam our neighborhood, scratch our vehicles, poop in our flower garden, terrorize my dogs - but should I kill them? NO.

Coyotes roam free around parts of my area.. they could potentionally be harmful to my dogs - should I kill them? NO.

Snakes come into our screened in pool/porch area - should I kill them!??! NO NO NO.

There is absolutely no reasoning in killing any animal - whatever it may be. I am probably one of the most protective persons when it comes to my pets - but there's no way no how I could bring myself to just kill another animal because of it. It's not right, it's heartless, and again has no reasoning.

Are you a PETA member?
I have no clue why you brought PETA up - as they disbelieve in pet ownership - but no - no way, no how would I ever support PETA.

I can believe in -all- animal welfare and not be a member of some radical group.

Well, that's good. PETA is a joke......

I believe in all animal welfare also, but I believe in my safety and my pets safety more than a wild animals welfare.

I have a friend that tried to catch a baby Cotton Mouth to relocate it, and he got bit on the finger....I had to rush him to the hospital where he had to get anti-venom pumped into him for hours...Also, like I said, I lost a dog to a Copper Head. I work at a land surveying company and have seen a few Rattle Snake bites....

I've personally had a lot of bad experiences with poisonous snakes, and I will kill any that comes into my yard. That is the only animal I will ever willingly kill.

*** This wasnt a thread about the ethical treatment of snakes***
This is about my dog...so if you want to say something about my killing the snake say it in another thread :)

 I dont kill black snakes, I dont kill garter snakes but I will kill a poisoness snake and I dont like people telling me I am wrong because I killed a poisoness snake.... I was just posting a thread telling how close me and my Chloe were to it, but if you would rather see her die than a posioness snake thats you, but if its going to come down to a snake or my dog the snake is going to be KILLED

Jess i agree, Snakes arent like other animals, they should be killed when they come near your home. Not only do you have to worry about your dogs, but yourself and kids also. I am extremely terrified of snakes. Where i live we have copperheads, cottonmouth/water moccasin, rattlesnakes, bull snakes, and garter. Luckily the only time i have seen them are crossing the road, run over, or at ponds, they really put a damper on my fishing time lol.

I am outraged that you are killing animals just beceause they are there. I am not only a dog owner but I have two pythons living in my house. Whenever I see a snake I remove it from my property in a safe fassion.

How would you like it if I killed a dog just beceause it was there? I don't know if the dog is dangerous or if it is not, but should I be killing is just beceause it's there?

A snake is a living, breathing animal just like your dog is. You should be treating all animals with respect weather or not they creep you out.

The majority of people do not know how to properly remove a snake without causing injury to themselves. When it comes to a dangerous, life threatening snake, and if I am worried about my safety, my dogs safety, or any other domestic animal, sorry, the snake has got to go.

And I do not care if you are outraged, because you dont have to do anything you dont want to do, but I'll be ****ed if you are going to make it out like I am a animal killer.. So go tell your stories to somebody that cares........:)

Again, this was NOT a thread about the ethical treatment of poisoness snakes, it was about mine and Chloe's safety........................................

What does that have to do with this thread if you have a problem with killing poisoness snakes start another thread

Your original post has a statement saying "of course" you killed the animal. If you don't want other's to voice their opinion than quite possibly a forum isn't for you.

I could validate killing an animal if it was attacking you or your pet. But, as you said you all were playing feet from it and it caused you no harm. Bring your pets inside, call someone to capture and relocate it. *gasp* What a concept.

    Right back at'cha sweetheart.

I have read the whole thread, thank you very much, but a message board is ALL about people posting their opinions. If you can't handle the fact that one's differ from your's, maybe it's not a place for you.

I think your actions were wrong, so do others - some agree with your actions, it's a story of life and I have every right in the world to express my opinion here. You are not my mother and cannot tell me otherwise.

Please direct me where myself or "other people" stated that you were an animal killer? You did kill an animal, correct? I don't believe I insinuated (or anyone else) that you do it as a hobbie or anything - but you DID kill an animal.

You may repeat the fact that this thread wasn't about 'peoples' opinions, however there's no law where it states we are unable to express them here.

If she continues to reply why am I not supposed to? She directly quotes me so I'm under the impression that she is directing something towards me - in which case I am able to reply.

I guess I should apologize for having a differing opinion of a majority here.
