We got up at 7 but the vets didn't open until 9. About the vet got in and told us to come on in to bring her. She couldn't stand up or go out to pee so we carried her out to the car.

When we got about halfway there, she was in the seat and just started gasping so we pulled over and carried her to the back of the van. I drove without a license and my dad held her. A few miles down the road she started breathing really shallow. About a half mile from the vet she was gone. She saved us from having to make any hard decisions. The vet came out and consoled us and gave us some information for a burial service and crematorium. We brought her body home and we all petted her and now my father is taking her to the crematorium. She's going to be cremated and buried next to Harry, her mortal enemy lol. They can harass each other forever that way. We're going to get another redbud tree and a marker to put out there too.

I'm oddly at peace with all this. I'm sad and I've cried but seeing her yesterday was so much worse. She had a full happy life and really the best a dog could ask for. I couldn't have asked for a more peaceful way to go- with two people she loved, in one of them's arms and she didn't seem in any kind of pain. I didn't have to make a hard decision, it was just her time.

Last night she got cookies and stayed outside, sitting on my feet and I petted her a long time. This morning we brushed her for a while before the vet opened and talked to her and kissed her. I really can say I have no regrets and I am very thankful for that. It's still hard, but there is so much to be thankful for.

((((((HUGS)))))) I'm so sorry, but I am glad she had some good time with you before the end. It does sound like a peaceful way to go.

oh wow.. I'm so sorry. :( At least now she's running free, no more suffering! I hope she didn't suffer much at all but it sounds like she at least had good last moments with you.

I am crying so much... I am so sad, but I am glad you are at peace with this. I'm glad she made the decision for you... I think that was easiest for you all. I think she knew it would be a tough choice, so she took care of it. She was always taking care of you.

I am sorry she is gone, and feel for you. I am glad that she was able to make that decision for you--it isn't an easy one. Nikki knew, for her and you. She was a special girl, definitely.
