Have people had problems with bad bags of canidae?

I'm thinking of switching to this if I can find a reliable source. I read where one person here said they would feed it but they got too many bad bags. Has anyone else had this problem? I don't want to have to worry about driving a couple of hours to get an emergency bag of it if I end up with a bad bag. How do I know it's bad? Would it smell bad?

I haven't had that problem, but to me it smells pretty bad and I have to add things to get my dogs to eat it.. which is rare for the canines in this house! I'd try a small bag on them first before switching.

I have never had a quality issue with any of the bags of Canidae I have ever purchased, but I have had many palatability issues with it. My dogs (who are very rarely picky) just don't like it very much. They eat it like it's a chore where they eat other foods with more gusto. It's still a very good food with lots of benefits and all dogs have different taste buds so it's worth a try...

I've never had a problem. I don't have much of a choice but to feed it anyway as it's the only food that Winston tolerates well.

I can't say for sure that it was Canidae, but my Lab had some vomiting issues while on the food and they cleared up after going through a bag of Eagle Pack and then switching back to Innova. However, she could have very easily gotten into something at one point that caused the issue, because at the time she was on Canidae she was out of my care and living on a farm.

Mine did really good on it for awhile than they would get diarrhea with a whole bag and then good the next and then maybe a few bags later they'd get diarrhea agian and then they decided they just didn't like it. My lab would eat dirt if you put it in her bowl so that was odd to us that she stopped eating the canidae.

Mine scarf food like they have never eaten food before in their life! That's how we can tell if somethings not right with them if they aren't eaten like they usually do. We always joke that Hannah is so good with picking up scraps if you drop something she'll have eaten it before it hits the floor. So we know if they don't eat fast they are either sick, or not liking the food.

I've been feeding it since July of 2006 and I've never experienced a "bad bag" or anything like that. In fact, part of the reason I like it so much is that the quality is so predictable. We switched to Nature's Variety Instinct for one bag and stool size increased and Nala started producing eye gunk like crazy. We can't wait to go back to Canidae!

Gale, I have the same question as you. For those of you, Julie/Lizmo/etc., that claim to have purchased bad bags, what was bad about it? Are you sure it was the food?

Thanks everyone. I actually have a 5 lb bag that I bought when i was going to switch to it, but ended up having trouble finding it so I just held onto it. My concern now is that if I start her on this 5 lb bag I have to wait at least a week or two right, to make sure she tolerates it well (I mean a week after I have stopped mixing food)? So I don't know if it would last long enough for me to make sure of that and then get a bigger bag of it. The person I can get it from goes to his distributor every couple weeks (his words) to pick up dog food. So if I hit him right after he goes I have to wait a minimum of 2 weeks before I know he *could* have some (this is if his distributor is not out of it). Maybe I'll just switch her to the Premium Edge since I know for sure I can get that at a place that actually stocks it. The only issue with that is that it's a training academy, not a store, so it's not always easy to get ahold of them to set up a time to come get it. Why oh why can't someone closer carry good food on a regular basis! UGH! I hope this dog knows the hoops I'm jumping through for her. LOL.

Yes, I've had two bad bags. The first one caused horrible diarrhea to the point where I couldn't leave for more than a hour because both dogs would go in the house (which they NEVER do).

The second bag caused Lizzie to break out in red spots and continuesly scratch. We switched to NB and it redused the scratching.

Also, I dispise the smell. I can't stand getting the dogs food out -which is why I'm loving part raw, lol!

I think if it suits you, thats fine. But something I know hasn't helped my dogs and other dogs, I won't recommend.

I think the smell changed - it used to smell okay, but then I got a few bags that smelled like cow poop. That's about the time Ronin couldn't handle it (sudden onset of allergies) so I had to stop feeding it to him. :(

I am now feeding him Blue Buffale Lamb Meal and Rice - it's the only food I can find with 500+ Kcals and not have any poultry in it! He's still sparse in coat from the whole ordeal, I'm hoping it'll grow back soon!

That's so odd that people have had issues with the smell of Canidae...it's always been the food that I think smells the most mild compared to others and I always thought that was why my dogs wouldn't eat it well. No smell= no interest! Weird! lol

I haven't noticed a smell to it at all either. The only food I really notice a smell to (and it's a good smell) is the Timberwolf Organics. I think that food smells so good. Especially when you open the bag for the first time.

My dogs never smell their food I don't think they just swallow so I don't think smell bothers them at all.

I agree, TWO has an amazingly fresh, real food smell to it...very different from all the others IMO!

have been feeding canidae here for awhile now--no bad bags, no bad smell....dogs eat it without difficulty, and it firmed up their poop!

I've never noticed a smell, either?

I mean, compared to the Nature's Variety Instinct, Canidae smells like roses!

I'm really suprised so many people like the smell of Canidae compared to other foods, lol.

I've smelled Innova EVO, Solid Gold, ect and they smell SO much better than Canidae.

I've never had a problem with Canidae. My dogs love it, and are doing really well on it.
