This morning I woke up and I usually say hi to my dogs every morning and so I was like, Hello, Boys! And Sam! So, I get up and run my shower. I am in the middle of my shower when I heard growling and yelping and so I run out of the shower, grab a towel and I see Harley holding onto Dakota's neck with his mouth and then I was like, HARLEY, NO! And so then Sam notices whats going on and she gives a big yelp and literally steps all over Harley and starts licking Dakota. I get some clothes on and drive Dakota to the vet and the vet said that Dakota and Harley are just having some territorial issues (like who is alpha male) and Harley feels left out of 'the pack' with 2 other dogs in the family. But, Dakota is fine and the vet said that Sam is obviously the Alpha female and she is keeping them in line while I wasn't home based on what she did. I need to go see a trainer to help Harley and Dakota see that they are on EQUAL status within 'the pack'. When I got home from work, Dakota and Harley were both sprawled out on my bed with Sam on my pillows (Thanks, Sam, I'm gonna enjoy sleeping on those tonight.) I'm wondering if I should still go see a trainer, because they can be really expensive.

I'm no dog behaviorist, but I think it's normal, and there's nothing you can do about it... they have to decide of their place in the pack.

This is a very common problem with two dogs who are the same sex. I agree with Fran. You can establish yourself as the head of the household, and the authority who stops fights from becoming anything more than a squabble. But I don't think you can make them equal; only they can sort out their relationship.

I would keep tabs on the situation but they will probably sort it all out on their own. As well as Farley & Chloe get along, occasionally they too will have a squabble and it will get quite heated and Miss Chloe sure doesn't hold back at all. Luckily all I have to do is yell "ENOUGH" and it's over. Of course, who knows what goes on while I'm at work but I've never come home to find one of them injured.

Roxy and Kia got into two big fights and it was always over something stupid..once I came in and Roxy jumped up to say hello and at the same time Kia did and they got into a pretty bad fight over who got to lick my face first. After that when I came in I ignored them both for about 5 minutes till they calmed down then told them to both sit...gave them each a cookie and said my hellos. the other time was kind of our fault..my bf threw a piece of bread to roxy who was right next to kia and kia thought it was for her and they both went for it and ended up in a fight. as for males though id think its pretty much who is the alpha male. good thing you have a female to keep them in line ;) theres no point spending 2000$$ for someone to tell you that males like to fight once in a while :D
