dear luce,
it was three years ago today that i picked you up at the shelter and brought you into my life, my home, my heart. i can't believe it's only been three years. i can hardly remember what life was like without your dramatic flair, without your kicking me in the middle of the night, without your tongue up my nose every morning.
you've taught me so much about dogs, about training, about aggression, about motivation, about patience, and about the rewards that all of those things bring. you've taught me about owning a difficult dog, about how to be proud of the little steps, and how it doesn't matter that the things that are supposed to be "easy" are difficult for us. what matters is that we're getting there. that we're learning to work together. that even if it takes me six years, i'll put some kind of obedience title on you, yet!
you make me proud. you fill me with joy. and i love you so very much.
happy gotcha day, eeevil red dog.
