We've been living together 8 months .. the first 2 months were awesome and then the last 6 Tippy has been miserable. Tippy turned 2 in March and she was spayed over a year ago. I had emailed Creature Teacher and she suggested some things and we did try them. Tippy has been aggressive with me for awhile now .. I have been nipped at several times with her for the last couple months now. But yesterday I was bit several times very hard. She drew blood and my hand is very bruised. Every day is a struggle with Tippy. She just does not like me. She never is happy, she hasn't been happy for awhile. The only time that she IS happy is when I'm gone and it is just her and her dad. If I'm there she mopes around and won't play. I didn't mean to sound insensitive when i said "got rid of tippy" ... Roy and I are both VERY sad that she is gone and the decision wasn't just made at the spur of the moment. I will support any decision he made and that was his decision. To him he doesn't even have his dog anymore because she is not herself. She is ALOT more happy where she is now. Her tail is constantly wagging and she plays with the other dog and kids. Here, she just moped and wasn't ever happy.

If she's happy now, then you did the right thing for her. You tried for a long time. Terriers are funny little beasties - they get something in their heads and that's it sometimes. They can also carry a grudge a long, long time . . . and they can be more jealous than the mother of an only son!

Yes, his sister is keeping her and promised she would never give her away. She also made it quite clear that she will always think of Tippy as his dog and he can have her back whenever he wants and we can visit whenever we want. We never wanted to "get rid" of Tippy.

linzgrrl...I do commend you for your openess with talking about this. You have not been defensive at all and that is hard to do when everyone is hammering you with questions. You have been very honest without being nasty and that is a nice trait to see in people...just a thought

I do understand everyone being concerned about Tippy's well-being as I'm sure all of us are dog-people/lovers or else we wouldn't be on thus forum. We would never have given Tippy away if it wasn't for her best interest. We do believe that she is going to be more happy were she is now and life will go on. We were forced to make a decision when she started to get agressive. We're getting married soon and then want to have a family we don't want to risk Tippy getting "agressively possesive" with a baby or small child. We figured it would be better for Tippy to live with his sister since she is already married and already has children so there shouldn't ever be an issue with someone else coming into the picture. Tippy is a great dog and we both love her to death. When i started this forum i just wanted to know if anyone had ever had the "agressively possesive" problem with a Jack before.

linzgrrl....I did hear of what you went through once before. I worked at a vet clinic and during my time there, there was a very nice husband and wife who owned 2 JRT's. One of the JRT's became very possesively aggressive towards her, especially when she was on the bed. The husband would say that his wife would just lay there and the dog would jump up on to the bed and start staring at her...then start growling...and eventually go to bite her. The dog clearly viewed the bed as it's "territory." They had a lot of problems with that dog and it had clear issues with the wife and not the husband. What is strange though, is that the dog never acted submissive towards towards her, just aggressive which makes it a little different from your case. They worked with a behaviorist for a while who eventually taught the wife how to establish that she was a "pack leader" and the problem went away. JRT's are very interesting creatures as are all terriers with the exception of a few. They have a lot of drive and are very tenacious and if you don't control them, they WILL control you ;)

I sorry that you had to get rid of your dog. I know how hard that must have been for you. You did what was best for you guys. I went through a similar situation with my rescued husky and we were on the brink of returning her to the shelter but we happened to get her on the right track and she's starting to come around a little bit. Although now she has even more problems. We found out today she has cancer. She had a lump on her neck and it got removed and the vets called today and gave us the bad news. ~SIGH~

We don't know yet, we are going to leave for the vets in an hour. She has an appointment for one. He wants to try chemo on her, he said that will give her a little extra time. He didn't go into details over the phone, just said to bring her in and he will tell us everything today. I can feel a few more lumps on her, I'm hoping that's not more cancer but I'll have to tell him about it when we get there.
