I'm glad there's a reason to the golden fever out there. I figured they were a good dog, but just not sure if the majority of my neighbourhood has gotten a golden because of the facts or because of hearsay on the breed. As far as great dogs go, walking through the park in my area (which backs onto many yards) we have had many goldens come running to the fence and barking at Maddie and I in a very aggressive way, which I wasn't sure if I should expect that in a golden or not.
Boris does that too in the yard, he's just protecting the house :D He loves people otherwise. I'm fully aware that he was probably poorly bred though, and that his character isn't totally golden-like.

i was drawn to goldens because they are so 'people orientated' and eager to please, making them easier to train than a breed which wasnt so keen on being trained

after doing so much homework and waiting for what feels like forever im so excited to say that ill be bringing my golden boy home in just less than two weeks!!!

:)

Labs became popular (I believe) 15 years ago, unfortunately, most likely due to the fact that not only are they absolute angels, but they're smart, good-looking and just in general, perfect (I'm biased). There are way too many BYB of labradors, which greatly saddens me, because they're are wrecking the breed; turning them into huge, aggressive dogs that don't look or act ANYTHING like a lab should. I hope and pray that the majority of the labrador breed will go back to being of medium size, sweet (NOT aggressive, AT ALL), with a nice otter tail and floppy ears.
There is such a swing in labs. You have the show/bench and the field.
Field has a variety of sizes ranging from big tall and lean. to really small and lean.
I have one female who is 48lbs and one heck of an athelete!
I have one boy Red who is 80lbs of all love and joy. And he is athletic as well.
I like the field labs...Nothing against show..Just my preference.
I have to agree with you on the breeding....There are so many puppies for sale in the papers that have no certifications or titles..They say comes from champion lines but when you call the titles are 3-4 generations back!
Thats why Limited Registrations are a must with labs. Too many people think thier lab is the greatest and that they can produce one just like him..Not true. The chances of reproducing your dog is slim. Each dog/pup is a individual.

Just a note on Goldens..I was looking through OFA site and found that Goldens are statistically 20% displastic

I have a Golden Lab/golden retriever cross. Well actually I have sisters that are. One looks like a Lab while the other looks like a retriever. They are both medium sized one is floppy eared one isnt. I worked for a lady with a huge golden retriever. He was huge if he stood he would have been taller than me Im 5'8. she asked why my dogs were so small I thought there was somthing wrong with them even though both parents were registered and medium sized! I love the loyalness. I love how when my dog looks into my eyes she knows how im feeling and I find comfort in her. She who sleeps at the foot of my bed would protect me even to her death.

Awwww...that brought tears to my eyes !!! There's something about the total devotion in Golden's and Lab's eyes. Well bred, both breeds are so special....though Labs always go one more step !!

It wasnt cruelty they loved it! Four dogs dogs pullin man they went fast! The neighbors loved it! while they waited hours for the roads to get plowed me and my dogs went everywhere!
