Wow RD your totally HOT! Any guy who doesn't see that ... Regardless of weight is a loser.
Ditto this.

I'm just going to say that curvy is a plus in my book. I'm skinny as it is, I don't really have interest in snuggling with bags of bones. Besides, curves are hot.

I LOLed so hard.

Try using oil, Dixie. It will remove makeup fine.

Gah, shampoos. Really. I can't decide what to order. Do I go with lush, my old standby? I have a hard time paying $20/8oz though. And then I'm going to add other stuff onto the order. John Masters Organics? I tried a sample once, thought it was fantastic, but I'm nervous I won't like it after a week like so many other shampoos. I see "Acure Organics" has great reviews and is cheaper than the others. Help!

Lol I usually use what is cheap xD, right now I am using suave naturals rosemery/ mint because its cooling & feels good in summer ... I always run out of conditioner first though, because I "wash" my hair with conditioner most of the time & only use shampoo once every week or once every two weeks.

aaaand thanks guys. Addicted to trying all these organic soaps now. I just bought some african black soap and some other kind of soap I found at Target.

After I get through this shampoo bar I'm currently using I'll let y'all know how the ABS does on my fine/short/straight hair.

You totally could henna, Jessie. It'd give your hair some crazy shine in the sunlight but henna won't lighten your hair at all. If it's super dark, it'll really just make it super shiny and the red will be more like a glitz under bright lights than an all-over color change.
^ yup, that. I have very dark brown hair with white hair sparsely throughout, this is my hair with standard Raj henna. The photo shows where the sun hits it is a rich red. The white hairs are the only ones that show really red always (including that "stripe" near the front of my head), the rest is a rich auburn-red in sunlight and a dark auburn-brown in regular light.

If you're not keen on henna-red, you can also blend it with indigo to create brown tones and black tones. A wealth of info on this site:

http://hennaforhair.com/

Henna makes my hair healthier than it's ever been. So much stronger and healthier, plus my dandruff is gone!

Henna has made my hair and scalp a million times better. The lemon juice I mix it with is a great astringent and gives my scalp an amazing deep cleanse. I mix in ground ginger and cinnamon and i wrap it up in plastic wrap, go to bed with it in, and when I wake up my scalp is totally refreshed, not oily or flaky, and the ginger and cinnamon scent stays in my hair for about a week despite daily washing.

I'm one of those compulsive hair washers. I work retail and I sweat and get dirt and grime in my hair. I can't not wash it. If I take two showers a day, I wash with conditioner only for one of them. I've tried no poo, I've tried using natural soaps, but my hair just doesn't adjust properly. I'm hoping that when I get my body into better shape and am healthier, it'll fix whatever's messing with my hair.

What do you guys think of LUSH shampoos? I know a few people here have said they use then. I have extremely thick, extremely dry/damaged hair, and I'm terrified of trying new shampoos because sometimes they make my hair feel like straw :( I think a big part of that is just using a really good conditioner (and I'm starting to do coconut oil treatments; in fact I have it in my hair for the first time right now!) but it still worries me.

My hair is also dyed, but I'm not too worried about how fast a shampoo strips out color. If it maintains color pretty well, that's just a bonus IMO.

Have had an OKC account forever and started messaging this guy who is in the marines and messaged me a while back, just as friends, and we have been talking for a while and I think I am beginning to crush a little.. I had a BF when we started talking so it wasn't like that but I told him about my breakup and we just talk all the time and now it's just..complicated.
But I like him.
and he loves dogs.
and is a nerd.
and the uniform is a bit of a turn-on admittedly.
as is the fact that I can talk to him non stop for hours and not get annoyed/bored

..but dating someone in "service" has never even occurred to me, he is coming home to Boston in a bit but ahh do I really want the heartache of someone who is a marine? Don't they spend all day all over getting shot at?

but I think about him when he's not around and want to talk to him about stupid silly ridiculous things.

oh boy.

FWIW, I married a marine. He was just out of the service when I met him. I'd just tell you if this is a long distance thing to be careful.

While they're in the service they make money and don't have to spend it on housing or food if they don't want to because it's provided, so weekends are full of parties and drinking and plenty of girls want to hang out with them.

And yes, they travel for training ops and can easily be deployed somewhere. My husband was in for four years and went to quite a few places overseas to either train or work.

Not really a long distance thing, he is coming home to Boston where I live for quite a while under they send him off somewhere I presume.

I'm not saying they can't be nice, or faithful, etc. I love my husband, but after what he's told me I'm glad I met him AFTER the marines. He wasn't in a relationship the whole 4 years he was enlisted because he knew it would set it up for failure.

There is a reason that a high percentage of marriages fail when one of the spouses is serving. They have a high level of stress, they're usually young, have money available to them, and are in foregin countries where its kinda like Vegas "What happens here, stays here" (except the herpes).

Not trying to discourage you, just saying proceed with caution.

Got a pic last night of my hair "type". I had brushed it a couple times while it was air-drying which tends to make it pretty straight rather than straight/wavy (I prefer it wavy but it gets too frizzy if I don't brush it out).

Proof of how weird my hair is:

Underneath:

(You can see one big spiral curl, and there were several, but it was hard to take a picture of.)

On top:

Why can't my hair be curly everywhere?? It used to be much curlier/wavy-er than it is now.

Do you wet set it ever? Put some leave in conditioner in, maybe some gel, and twist in in different sections to dry?

My hair was a lot like that in my late teens early 20s...its gotten curlier as I get older

Returned the horrid shampoo/conditioner I had bought last week (Abba with "Pro Quinoa Complex") that turned my hair into a tangled snarl of straw. Bought some Burt's Bee's Very Volumnizing and I have real hair again!

Dixie I think your hair would curl well naturally if you let it and helped it out a little bit... :)

I think your straight bits are probably deceiving, you probably won't be able to achieve tight spiral-y curls from those pieces but I think definitely you would get waves/looser curls.

I'd stop brushing, on the days that you want curls... brushing is just going to break up the curls and, like you said, helps some of those pieces straighten out.

Styling products are your key.... not that it takes anything fancy or that it has to take a lot of effort, there's just a couple things that really make a difference. For myself. I shower, wash my hair like normal. When I'm done with my shower I flip my head upside down. I get a good dollop of leave in conditioner and rake that through my hair (I alternate between Kinky Curly Knot Today and Mixed Chicks). Then I get a glob of gel (which again, I use Kinky Curly's gel... I like their stuff lol) and just scrunch if through my hair. Finally I use a microfiber towel or cotton t-shirt to do one last scrunch to get out the excess water and whatnot.

That's it. I try to add lots of moisture and the gel helps the curl hold (and also fights frizz). But just scrunching through a couple extra products at the end of my shower makes allll the difference.

This is an old picture from when I had no idea how to live with my hair. This is just brushed and air-dried. It's a rare shot too because I used to either flat iron it or put it in a pony tail... I never wore it down and "natural"

Aaaaand with a few simple changes... we have curls!
(sorry the picture sucks, I was like leaning back and just... at a weird angle.)

This was longer than I intended. :p

Southpaw your curly shot is what my hair looks like in the morning if I sleep with it down ( sometimes I sleep with it in a braid) I used to hate it but I have come to make peace with my wild curly hair xD.

While on the subject ... Is it better or bad for your hair to sleep with it in a braid? I do sometimes when I stay with OH due to the tendency he has to lay on it :/
