I think what Redline was saying was that Caza does not enjoy being cuddled with. Some dogs don't; my old Dobe mix didn't. She liked to be stroked on the head, but was uncomfortable with full cuddling. I could clip her nails, brush her and do just about anything I wanted to to her, but neither did I force her to do something minor that she didn't like. I believe it's the same with Caza.

I could also be way off. *shrug*

LOL. I didn't realize you were a fellow Oregonian Fillyone!

(And shhh...I'm trying to keep it under wraps- once our secret gets out all of the validity of my point will be lost).

*gives Douglas Fir next to her a quick squeeze*- "It's okay Doug, I still love you."

On topic- I LOVE the Rah pic! More please! He's a lovely boy.

A pet home, IMO, is a home who only wants a dog for the idea of a dog. Take it on walks, go to the petstore with, and can just cuddle.
My GSD is not a Schutzhund dog.
He does not herd.
I'm not a police officer.
We do not belong to a SAR team.
He has not competed in any AKC sanctioned event.

That makes him a pet. I'm highly offended by your statement.
Every decision I make revolves around what is best for my dog. He's very well behaved and in great health, but he's a pet.
Yes there are some frickin' lousy pet folks out there, but don't paint us all with the same brush

I know I"m late in the thread..and this was probably corrected or commented on, but weren't GSD's bred as sheep dogs? I think it was only later, especially in the rise of the WWs, that GSDs became guard dogs.... I hate that word by the way..
The GSD was originally bred as a herder, but the dog's other traits- protectiveness, intelligence, strength, agility, size, have allowed it to become an all around working dog. It may not be the best at any one attribute- there are better protectors, better herders, etc, but the sum of all of those traits has the GSD widely regarded as the best overall.

Look here for a history on the breed and you'll see why they are such a well rounded dog:

You guys are so funny. Again, MY OPINION STANDS. And I will NEVER get an American line dog, because I DONT LIKE THEM. The American GSD's are ugly, IMO, and the Dobies are too hyper IMO. Its funny how the rest of you can say YOUR line is great but I cant. And German Shepherd, my dog doesnt have agression issues, get your fact straight. Everyone just wants to label EVERYTHING agression.
Isnt that what you are trying to do? Label everything as neurotic and aggression. Funny now your resorting to saying American Lines are UGLY LMAO.... you are to funny. And you also said for me to get my facts straight....In your past threads you said your 3 year old GSD Attacked your young pup and you were worried your young pup would show signs of aggression later on like the older GSD.

Mods shouldnt this thread be closed? To bad Stupidity is not a Crime.

Ah and your right GSD American Lines are ugly...I can barely stand to look at this dog.

And Forum, you do know you are arguing with a 17 year old, right?

GSD you say that it is only American Lines that are nuerotic and aggressive....well what about your so called well bred dogs?
This is what u said in one of your threads:

I am so upset. Today I put Caza in my room while I let Hondo in to get water. So I let Hondo in and I stay behind to disinfect his cage (I do this periodically wth all the cages, too many germs floating around. The next thing I know I hear a dog snarling and then Hondo shreaks. I run into the kitchen and Hondo is bleeding and Caza is there. It turns out my grandmother let Caza out of my room so that he could "run around". And Caza was drinking water and became pocessive over it. I was so upset with her. That is exactly why my dogs are crated WITH locks, because no one respects my wishes. I put Caza in my room for a reason and they always go behind my back and mess things up. I knew what I was doing, but NOOOOOOO they know so much more than me . So I had to make a trip to the vet and get Hondo stiched up. They just dont seem to understand a REAL dominant dog. They have always had submissive, calm dogs, and have NEVER had to seperate dogs due to dominance issues. Caza isnt a joke and WILL tear a dog to shreds and I am lucky he only bit once. I can only pray that Hondo doesnt grow up with serious dog agression due to this dramatic accident at such a young age.[/QUOTE]

Sounds like Caza is Neurotic....Oh I better not own a German Line!! I bet they are all that way.

One thing I am fairly sure of . . . very rarely do Doberman people and German Shepherd people agree about dogs ;)

Charley raised Dobermans for several years, can't stand German Shepherds . . . but adores Bimmer and freely admits that Bimmer is the "best" of our dogs ;) But, I will have the divvil's own time ever getting another Shep as long as I am with Charley . . . Good thing we agree on the Filas, lol!

And although I admire Dobes and think they are nice dogs, they just aren't my cup of tea - too eager to please for my perverse nature :D

Actually most "hardcore" working dogs are perfectly suited for family life.

Working dogs, especially hardcore working dogs make some of the best family members because they are able to distinguish an actual threat from an imagined one.

People who are really involved in the "working dog world" are proud of their dogs accomplishments, they are even prouder of how wonderfully loyal and devoted these dogs are to thier families.

The only people that think a dog can't work and be a family member are those individuals more concerned with proving how tough their dog is.

I'm "in" GSD's and whenever I hear someone say something like this I really cringe.

So you don't cuddle your dog because he doesn't like it? Whose in charge you or him? My first GSD Star hated, absolutely hated to have her paws touched but when it came time to clip her nails I would take her paw and do what needed to be done.

Caza may not liked to be touched in certain ways but he should know his place in the pack and have enough trust in you to allow you to handle him.

You say that pet homes that don't know dogs don't respect them, it sounds more to me that your dogs don't respect you.

You say you don't handle him in certain ways because he doesn't like it..alot of what you say makes me question if the real reason you don't handle him in certain ways is simply because you don't have the control over him, the respect from him, or the talent in handling to do so.
Cuddlng and cutting nails are totally different first of all. Clipping nails are necessary whereas cuddling is not necessary. Yes, I hold my dog everyonce in a while when its necessary but there is no need for me to hold him and be all over him, just because. I respect my dogs, and they respect me. Without mutual respect you have nothing. Again there is NO NEED for me to cuddle my dog just because YOU want a teddy bear. Why put a dog through something it doesnt like. If its not necessary then dont do it. RESPECT YOUR DO

Yup!!! Caza was pocessive over the water, and he nipped him. Pocession is not necessarily agressive nor does that make him dog agressive. In fact he LOVES otehr dogs. Would you feed multiple dogs together (which is basically the same thing) I would hope not.

Mods shouldnt this thread be closed? To bad Stupidity is not a Crime.
Aw, if immaturity was a crime, we'll meet up in jail.

Ah and your right GSD American Lines are ugly...I can barely stand to look at this dog.
I feel bad for you then. I always look at my dogs and always love their appearance.

And Forum, you do know you are arguing with a 17 year old, right?

And?? Why are you still here. I am far from the youngest on here.

LOL!!! ALL dogs are pocessive, just some more than others. Its NATURAL in ALL canine species. I pray for the betterment of the breed that you dont get a real German German shepherd dog.

Since this isnt going to help the OP, why dont yall take the pissing match to PMs?

Or... Start your own thread so the pissing match can continue so those that enjoy watching them can continue being entertained.

Thank you.
