I think I may of found a kennel I would love a pup from someday, I have been looking into the pedigrees of their dogs and trying to trace them back as far as poss, do you do this? Does anyone have any tips? So far its taken four hours and I have one 5 generation pedigree and two incomplete ones, don't forget I am in the UK so I cant look on sites like the O.F.A because boxers (sadly) just are not hip tested here, any tips would be gratefully appreciated

Okay, I do have one suggestion. This may not be available to you, mind you, but in my breed here in the states, there is a book put together by a breed historian that contains the pedigrees of all titled shelties (Ch, Obedience, ROM, etc) I found this through the breed club, so you should call or email them to see if they have something similar?

When I first started out, I bought that book and signed up for the authors additions to it and ran them through a pedigree program I had that would do nifty things for me like follow tail mail line, compute the inbreeding coefficient for a given dog/bitch and also for the get of a proposed mating. I could also enter data by code, so I could note what dogs/bitches were noted for what virtues and that would show up on finished pedigrees as well. Pedigree software is a matter of personal preference, so shop :)

Oh, and yes, I did do that. I obsessed on that. I had a specific issue I was looking at (linebreeding on "Pow" versus "Peter" -two of the breeds great studs) and having a pedigree that went back 20 generations was necessary.

It wasn't so much that I collected the pedigrees as that I had them on software. I could literally look up any titled dog in the breed and have their pedigree with the click of my mouse.

Always back up to disk, and you'll be fine :)

I used one developed by a Sheltie breeder (AutumnGold) so it would be of little use to you. I'm sure if you do a web search you can find a program specific to the UK :)
