My boys are twins and are built so different. You could forget to feed Bandit and he still wouldn't be hungry. He holds his weight regardless of what you feed him. He can eat tons and not gain a pound or eat nothing and not drop. Spanky for the life of him cannot gain any more weight. He is the heaviest now that he's ever been and he's still skinny.

Poor tyke.

I get it all the time about Bamm... but he definitely is a little on the thin side. Satin Balls is starting to make him look at least a little bit better. He eats like a horse and doesn't gain much at all. I have a terrible time trying to keep weight on him. He's healthy as a horse though and just very active. People always ask me if I feed him... oh boy...

I'm actually using a little bit of this stuff mixed in with his food right now and he's really starting to look better

I get that about one of my sons frequently. He's almost 5 and thin as a rail...he eats twice as much as I do in a meal though, but without a shirt on he looks starved!
I've had CPS called to my house because of it as well, someone said I wasn't feeding him :yikes: then he goes to tell the CPS investigator how he eats 4 pancakes at a time for breakfast...which is true, he scarfs food down...they left me alone after that.

Oh and last year when I got Smokey AC was called out to my house within a week by a neighbor who said I was neglecting him...he was really thin and you could count ribs and vertebrae from at least 20 feet away...they gave me some problems and I ended up telling them to either get a warrant or go away, that he'd seen a vet and he was being fed, showed them the vet invoice where they wormed him, etc...they were just being jerks (I also found out my neighbor wanted to adopt him and she worked for the humane society - she came over to try to buy him off me after I told AC to get lost)
Smokey has just recently gotten to the point where he doesn't look like he came out of a refuge camp, after 8-9 months.
I don't understand why AC doesn't see that if there's 1 dog that's thin in a house and the other is an ideal weight, that maybe, just maybe, the thin one has a problem or just naturally leaner...obviously one is getting food, and who feeds one dog and starves another?

That is RIDONCULOUS.
I wish you knew who reported you, so you could "have a word" with them... and let them meet your boys... and observe how you feed them, and how active they are.

Border Collies are supposed to be lean. Gonzo's weight fluctuated a lot earlier in his life, he was very thin when I adopted him, and wasn't at a truly healthy weight until he was about 2 years old. And he was overfed, if anything. Then, he would gain weight and lose weight, seemingly at random intervals. I REALLY want to keep him lean, because it's how his breed should be, and it is healthiest, especially since he's getting older. Raw has completely fixed the fluctuating, and he is at the best weight of his life, but I constantly get comments about him... he especially looks skinny next to Fozzie. What's important is muscle tone and energy, above all. I wish all of the people who say Gonzo looks anorexic would feel his hind legs! An underweight dog could not have thighs of steel. ; )

It's sad that people don't understand a healthy dog when they see one. I have people stop me all the time and talk about the 130lb GSD they have. Yeah, I've seen you walking him, his belly is practically dragging on the ground and he can barely walk. That's more abusive than a dog showing some ribs. You should see some of the dogs I train with, you can see every rib when they are working. Lean, muscular, agile. They are athletes.

Funny thing is, I've never had anyone say anything about Daisy being skinny. Her waist is so thin you can almost put your hands around it and touch your thumbs together. She's always got a few ribs sticking out, yet she eats 4lbs of food a day, and has rock hard muscles.

The one of mine that is actually underweight is Trey. He never gets asked because he is so hairy. I'm hoping now that Summer's hairs gotten thicker they'll stop nagging me about her. She looks a lot thicker at first glance now.

I also get sick and tired of people commenting on Nikki being OVERWEIGHT. I KNOW. She's got a ton of health problems including thyroid problems which makes it pretty impossible for her to lose weight.

I would never, ever let AC into my home without a warrant. Some of them are little Tin Hitler's, and I will be dam*ed if they take one of my dogs because of something they PERCEIVE or to be arsehats because they don't like something I say to them. Some will...be careful. Many stories about "well checks" on perfectly healthy dogs that result in ALL dogs being seized.

If they want to think my animals are starving, I shall show them my food bill. ;) After they have recovered from their concussion they received after fainting at the costs of feeding the crew here, they can GTFO. :D

some are RIDICULOUS. They want food down in the bowl...regardless of if you have set feeding times (because you know my kids have access to full bowls of food AT ALL TIMES, not!).

If I let them in I'd just sit and stare at them and fart a lot.

That's pretty ridiculous. I've never had any problems myself (knock on wood) and I doubt I'd let them in, unless hubby was here... but one can look at my crew and know they are well fed.. it is no lie.

Sorry it happened to you Paige... you know what is right and true and that is all that matters.

Don't feel bad. A lot of people have had this happen to them. My neighbor called Animal Control while we were on vacation. She said we had abandoned Voodoo and left him locked in a storage shed. We don't even have a shed....

That is ridiculous. I must be cruel because we feed at certain times of the day. If you leave it out all the time, Nikki will sit there and EAT every bowl of food you give her.

The last AC guy that saw my dog was stunned at the athletic condtion he was in and told me so. We had a great chat at how much effort goes into having a dog look like that, regardless of breed. He was nice and educated. Another AC that I met was just plain stupid. She came to the farm on a random inspectation according to her and she zeroed in on a mare that had just shipped in, a new purchase of one of my boarders.
I told her that the mare had been here less than a week (could prove it as well) but that didn't seem to make a difference. I told her she was wasting my time, that with 30 horses on the place, all had excellent weight, slick coats, white shavings in the stalls bedded DEEP, a loft full of excellent hay, feed room full and she targets the one that had just shipped in, in poor condition?? Give me a break.
I told her to come back in a month...............she came back 2 months later and she couldn't identify that mare because she now looked no different than the rest of the farm in weight and condition.
Meanwhile that same AC, is friends with a woman that runs a barn, concrete floors, NO bedding and all the school horses are dead lame.........a place that everyone in the area that had any education knew should be shut down.........

I hear that. I wouldn't be able to keep food in a bowl, because Daisy would eat it as soon as I put it down. She's a living vacuum cleaner.

One of my favorite comments about Daisy is "wow a thin lab!" :D

My mom's dogs get fed once a day and still remain at a healthy weight, lawl. The neighbors have accused us of not feeding our dogs, but AC doesn't give a **** until someone randomly tells them our dogs mauled their chihuahua, so. Shoot, the neighbor's dog is like... in horrible condition, but AC doesn't do anything "because they're friends with them."

Well, it's not the AC's fault, it's the person that called's fault.
People ask if we feed our dogs.
HA! No, we starve 'em.
Our dogs have a VERY busy schedule this summer since I don't have to do anything, basically. We hike, swim, run, play ball, an hour break in-between. We play ALL day except for an hour break inbetween. *Rolls eyes* People are just stupid..

It is that animal control's officer's fault for being a complete udder wad.
