Honestly, how much more in depth do I need to get talking? We have talked to the kids and the grandparents three times and have explained our reasons for the kids not to jump the fence (namely that it isn't there to support the weight of a child and also my dogs). The kids have been asked to just come to the door and let us retrieve their balls and if we aren't home to wait for us to get back or leave a note at the door.
I'm all for being neighborly but I also expect my wishes regarding my property to be respected. The fence is there primarily to keep my dogs in, but it should serve as a deterrent for other creatures coming in as well.) I don't allow my dogs to be disrespectful by running all over the place or barking while they're outside. Why can the kids act that way? My parents taught me early on to respect people and their things. I never would have dreamed of hopping my neighbor's fences, and I grew up in a very tight knit community.
We live in an extremely litigious society, and I have two rotties, a chow and an older fence. I'm not about to get sued because the grandparents don't have control over the disrespectful kids. KWIM?
I sent my insurance agent an email to get her thoughts
