Chiarott? Wow...that has to be some other sort of mix...unless it was a male Chi to a female Rott

I wonder if this is going to be some "new breed" that starts popping up in the papers, like the cheweenie. a chihuahua and mini doxie. I know how you feel, It sucks when the breed you love starts getting exploited.

He was probably a stray or accidental litter, not from an intentional breeder...I have NEVER seen a Chihuahua/rotte mixture before this.

You never know. sometimes an accidental litter turns into something more, I have seen it happen. Someone has a cute puppy from a shelter that was mixed with two dogs and then before you know it it's a craze. suddenly everyone wants this special mixed breed. That is when I get mad, because it is not for anything other than to say I have this new kind of dog.

I have had this happen to me. I was out with Mojo one time, and two black women were all over Mojo. They wanted to know what he was? I replied he was a Pit Bull Dachshund cross. They exclaimed "Oh!!! It's a MINIATURE pit bull." I looked at them like they were crazy.

They then wanted to know if he was neutered, and if not would I be breeding more? They were disappointed when I said that yes, he was neutered. He was not a miniature pit bull, and he has a slew of orthopedic problems that will be something I will be managing when he grows older (predominantly his hips will slip completely in and out socket when he walks...).

They then walked away talking about how they should get them one of those "mini pits." I could of slapped them.

Honestly it looks more like a tibetan spaniel/dachshund mix to me. I never trust rescues or shelters to get the breeds right, lol.

What did their race have to do with the story?

It's my story... i told it my way. Did the race have anything to do with it? No... But i was using the term "Black" as a descriptive term... If you'd like I could tell you they were "Black, middleaged, slightly overweight, and obvious Chicagoans that were covered in cat hair..." if you'd like to have the rest of their description.

Don't trust the shelter's guess. Their guesses can be way off base. My personal theory is that shelters will just call a dog a "mix" of some of the most popular breeds, just to increase the dog's chance of adoption.

When I got Zeus, he was called a "mastiff mix". Don't ask me where they got that from!

Zeus I could see being called a mastiff mix, especially if the shelter didn't know about Blackmouths. Big, fawn colored...

The shelter dog...can't see as how I see much Rott to it. And that picture isn't a good indication of size either.
