I don't really play with my dog as much as I should, infact I rarely play with her. I've been trying to get better at it, but when I want to play with her it doesn't seem like she wants to. She really likes to play fetch. She'll let me throw the ball a few times but then she'll just go and lay down. Am I doing somthing wrong?

Not playing with her more !!! Daily interaction is really more important . Ollie and I don't have any special play session ....we just have our games .

interaction, no matter what it is, is REALLY important. Ever watch a show on the TV with wolves or any dogs.. sometimes they walk up to each other, and for no reason, bump the other or just rub against each other and wander off...

You can play all you want, but, if your dog is like brute, and they know that it's a forced round of playing, they wont want to.. You need to pet her, teach her things, even if you just sit and talk with her, or put your hand down and rub her head, ear face back.. anything.. Sometimes all they want is for you to sit with them and play a game of pokie... Sit down, face her.. smile big and rub her like you've never seen such a wonderful animal. Say her name happily and play with her like you want to. Be excited when you play, sometimes they just need to know you care... Show her and love her. She's most likely very loyal if not completely loyal to you... You should show at least some loyalty to her.

im not saying this to yelling at you. I've seen so many dogs that are just.. sad... people own them sometimes to say they do.. LOVE HER! she loves you. Do what comes natural when you see her. Roll around with her. play with her. She will respond.

Play time is a must when you own a dog. Contact with people and other dogs daily doesnt promise a perfect pooch but it sure goes a long way. And I agree with some posts on playing preference. My Shiba will play fetch for about 3 rounds of throwing and running. Then she will just look at me like "You go get it" Find a playtime game your pup will like and play play play!! :)
