I dont really see much Golden in him..

Because of his colouration, I'd say hes definately got some sort of Shep in there. No Golden or Chow has that colouration. When Riot was little he had the same black triangle on his tail(hes a Belgian Shephard, Tervuren variety).

hes definately an adorable little puppy though!

and.. omg.. that homework thing! That kills me! LMAO!!
How'd you break the news to your students haha

I personaly think that his ears are too floppy to be part husky, mal, or shepherd. Chows have errect ears, so he has to be mixed with a breed that has floppy ears.

Did you know that some of the Sheps need to have their ears taped?

The way those ears are set on his head are set tell me that they COULD have stood up. No Golden has ears set like that.
Also, some Huskies have floppy ears(in racing lines)

thanks for the insights - i'm just recently becoming a dog person, and any help is appreciated! He recently began some herding behavior, so it makes sense that he's got some shepherd or collie in him. must post these new pics, too - he's so photogenic that I think he thinks that the camera is some sort of reward. He's always smiling at it.

OMG.

This is without a doubt, one of the cutest pups I've EVER seen.

Look at that smile!! I'm agreeing with you on that one, BJolly- this little guy shouldn't be legal at all, LOL.

He would have some kind of a future in greeting cards with a face like that!

That is on cute puppy!!!:D My guess would be: If mom is a chow , the dad might be shepard/Lab mix ,maybe. I can't say for sure , but I can say he's a cutie!!:D

My vote goes for mutt...lol. There's no way to tell, no sense in guessing, but I bet you could pin-point it with minimal effort. Just check out what roams your neighborhood, what dogs your neighbors have, etc. It's going to be a taller dog...lab/husky/etc...and I would put money on it being a spitz/spitz mix but it's just impossible to tell. Are there any other spitz' in your neighborhood?

Actually, looking at the later pics of him, I don't think it's a spitz/spitz mix and he's not a shepard mix, either. He's a hunting dog-mix...a lab or something, maybe?

If he were from our neighborhood, would be much easier! But we're in Milwaukee, and he was transported by the Humane Society from Tennessee. Someone there did think Australian Shepherd, though... would make sense. Does nipping at bigger dogs legs when running around indicate a herding breed?
