What's your "huh?" breed?

Please tell me everyone has one. You like a certain type of dog. You want dogs in your life for certain things. And then there's this one dog that calls to you despite being so NOT those things.

For me, I like terriers. I like others, but terriers really do it for me. I like other dogs that have similar oomph as terriers. I want a dog as a long distance running partner and hiking partner (as in mountains, not woodland trails.) I want a biking partner that never tires. I want a dog that can go hardcore all day and still be ready to take on the world. I want to get serious into agility. Maybe IPO if I get the right dog. I actively dislike most Lab/Golden temperaments because it lacks a sharpness I need. I like drivey, fast, lean, athletic dogs.

And Basset Hounds.

Don't ask me why, they are just an outlier that has always been.

Huskies. I adore them but they are such a poor match for me. I need like...a local friend with a dozen huskies so I can play with them and then go back to my own dogs haha.

Sighthounds.

I like my herders. I love their drive, biddability, work ethic and focus. But... there's just something about a long haired sighthound like a Borzoi or Windhound that I can't say no to.

Basset Hounds and Frenchies are my big ones. Had timing worked out better, I actually may have wound up with either one of them before I got either of my dogs. The day I brought home Chloe I was going to go look at a Basset at the shelter, and when I was contemplating adding a new dog during college I had an opportunity to adopt a gorgeous Frenchie, however I hadn't moved in to my apartment yet and my mom was adamant about no more dogs in her house.

Also Dogue de Bordeaux. Another breed I almost brought home on impulse while I was still in high school (pet store puppy, even though I knew better), and one I probably wouldn't turn down today even though the size, drool, and health would be complete turn offs.

Poodles. I'm a herder person without a doubt, but I really want a poodle. And a pointer. Aside from those two, I'm so not a sporting breed person.

Tibetan Spaniel and Pekingnese-mix type dogs - they are definitely not the type I usually go for (I like medium-sized, athletic sighthounds and herding breeds, generally speaking). For example, I've been mooning over this fluffy, silly-looking girl:

Also, Malamutes. I've loved every one I've met but they would not be a good fit for me.

They are just the sweetest dogs. Everyone I've met has been happy and friendly, without being overwhelming. I love the ears too.

English Bulldogs and French Bulldogs. I look at them and think lol so funny to have around the house but I can see myself ever owning one. Maybe Frenchies will be my old lady breed lol.

Can't STAND the bark, and I swear up and down that I don't want another herding breed. ... ... and I'm part of all the collie groups on Facebook and when I'm bored I look up pictures of them on the interwebs and just swoon. Do want. Or think I want.

You can, to an extent, train the barking out of a collie. It'll never be gone totally, but it can be improved. Logan isn't nearly as barky as he used to be, and the only times he ever barks is when he's playing, at lure coursing, or when somethings amiss (like a predator in with the chickens). He doesn't often bark for the sake of barking. He never barks at night (again, unless there's something amiss, and then it's only one bark at a time until I take care of the situation or tell him to stfu). He doesn't bark in public except for VERY rare occasions (he barked one bark at the gym yesterday morning because there was a very strange low rumbling noise, but that's incredibly out of character for him...he had an off day yesterday).

What drives me nuts are the debarked collies that barkbarkbark all the time no matter what you're doing...and then don't get NQd in rally because it's a collie specialty and more dogs are barking than not barking >.< Logan can stfu for rally, there's no reason others can't! Even crated at dog shows, Logan rarely barks...and when he does, I tell him to STFU. The only time I don't correct him for it, really, is coursing. He can bark to his heart's content at coursing, regardless of if he's crated, waiting, or running (though he doesn't bark while running).

Great Danes. I love my herders and love the hard bitey types (Simi) and the soft thinkers too (Psyche) but for some reason, I love me a Great Dane. Hoping on having one once we buy a house, someday lol
