I was talking with a lady at church this morning about a current foster she had. There is a rescue called Angel Dog Rescue in Georgetown, GA that she got the foster from. She's going to start taking dogs in and training them in basic OB so they have a better chance at getting adopted (I would, but can't right now because of parents :{ )

Now, they take dogs in from the streets (this area in GA has a HUGE over population of dogs :( it's insane they showed a picture of one dog that was left to roam streets and it was skin and bones - nasty. most of their dogs are like this) It's crazy, they have people drop off pregnant dogs all the time, and get dogs all the time.

Anways, they will go looking for dogs (thats how bad it is) then take them in, s/n them and get some weight on them. Then if they cant find a home for them THEY PUT THEM BACK OUT ON THE STREETS!!!!!

I was livid (same as she was) WTH would they do that?

I would be more inclined to continue fostering until it was adopted, not throw it back out. What's seems awful is the dog gets a taste of what life COULD be like and then chucked back out on the street.

In my county, if you house, feed, care for a stray dog for more than five days... it is considered yours. You can be fined for not obeying the leash laws, fined for not having shots up to date... etc. If this is true in other places... they could be charged with "dumping or abandonment" even though the dogs came from the streets in the first place. If you are really disturbed, check your local laws and see if they are breaking any.

I might do that, Julie. Thanks :)

Not really disturbed, more shocked/mad.

Yeah, I don't understand that. If you go that far, why not just find the dogs a home? I've never heard of anything like that. Turn the dog loose again so it can roam the streets and get injured or killed? Wow.

They probably got the idea from S-N-R (spay, nueter, release) from wild cat colonies.... but dogs are totally different!!!!!!!!!!! Cats are more independent and self sufficient.
Not something I would support!:yikes:

My mom said the same thing Julie, "No way I will support them!"

I can't see the SNR thing, but they keep the dogs for a while then if not able to find a home, let them loose again. =/

That is sick. I'm pretty sure if you provide care for an animal it is considered yours unless you and the owner have an agreement. Like if you take in a dog for a week without surrendering it to a shelter it becomes yours.
